Please tell me how you would pronounce a Turkish name Deniz? I'm thinking of giving this name to our boy but only if its easy to say for other people. Help, please!

Thank you all for your posts.
I was hoping it would be similar to Dennis... Denise sounds like a girl name. Is it?

Without knowing anything about how Turkish names work, I would guess Den-eez or Den-eeth.

It's a bit like the English pronunciation of Denise but In Turkish the stress is equally on the first and second syllable.

So Dah-dah ( Den eez) rather then Dud-aaah (DuNEEZ)

So almost halfway between Dennis and Denise.

I know a Deniz, pronounced Den-izz. His mum is a Turkish friend. She pronounces it like Dennis (aka the Menace, which would fit this little boy - he's delightful but a handful) but with more of a 'buzz' on the end.

Duneez like sneeze but before opening your thread linked it to a girl.

Den-iz

But I have Turkish citizenship so I know that's how it's pronounced, but my kids have simple Turkish names and all are pronounced without any problems

Den-iz. Like Dennis but without the double n. Can't see how you would get Denise from it but then I'm no good at pronunciation!

Yes, re your reply, Denise is girl's name over here so might confuse people. That said, I'd pronounce Deniz as Deneez rather than Deneece, if that makes sense. Subtle difference in the last sound.
