My colleague has just announced the name of her newborn baby boy as Marshall. She has a 9 year old called Skye.

Skye and Marshall... would you tell her about PP?

No way! Oh well. Probably will be irrelevant soon as that bloody awful program can't last too much longer. Can it? CAN IT?! Confused

Katniss Paw Patrol Grin

If they have a dog named chase, it's deliberate.

I know nothing of Paw Patrol but I do know that "A sky marshal (also known as air marshal, flight marshal, or, in the United States, FAM) is a covert law enforcement or counter terrorist agent on board a commercial aircraft to counter aircraft hijackings."

Marshall made me think of Eddie's odd ex-husband from Ab Fab.

I'm old.

True senua!

It just made me think of "sky marshal".

Never seen Paw Patrol.

That can't be an accident! I once knew a family who called their children Charlie and Lucy. Their dog was called Snoopy. And yes, their last name was a colour beginning with B and ending in n.

Oh I started to read a book like that closet! The main protagonist had children called Charlie, Lucy and Linus.

I hate that show Angry our DC1 shares a name with one of those irritants! So now the association is always there despite us not knowing about this show before having said DC- don't tell her.. I'd rather not know either! Grin

I've never seen PP but even I recognised the link. Admittedly her kid is 9 but I'm surprised she missed this.

Ha ha, that's unfortunate! Can't bear that programme. I suppose there's no point in telling her really - if she really likes the name Marshall she probably won't change her mind anyway.

I always assumed that the other one was spelled Zoomer - was very surprised when I discovered that it's Zuma. Named after the South African President??

I'm not sure I see the issue here. I've never heard of Skye & Marshall so the names sound perfectly fine to me. Just because it obviously means something to a small percentage of the adult female population (at a guess those between 25 and 35??), doesn't mean you can't use them. 90% of the population wouldn't see anything odd.

I wanted chase a boys name well before PP ever kicked off, dh said no and we had a girl anyway. I'm so glad that if I'd have had a boy I wouldn't have had a chase now.

But yes I'd probably mention it.

GreenShadow The trouble is, it's an immensely, immensely popular show with kids - they will remember it when they grow up. It's like Bill and Ben or Rosie and Jim for previous generations. Or naming your kids after two Power Rangers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, or Thunderbirds...

Can't decide whether it really matters or not, but personally I don't know if I'd want to be faced with giggles for the next few years every time I announce my kids names at toddler groups etc...

Why on earth would only female 25-35 year olds know about Paw Patrol?? What an odd thing to say.

Yes FallenSky I was surprised when a 20-something, single, childless male colleague confessed to loving Paw Patrol the other day! He even asked me who my favourite pup is (Marshall of course) and had his own favourite too. Turns out he's got young nieces and nephews he watches it with Smile
