Like it the more I say it, what's your thoughts?

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 25/02/2017 22:37

It sounds like a brand of curling tongs

austenozzy · 25/02/2017 22:38

Sounds like an accounting software package! Is it a real name or a made up one?

donajimena · 25/02/2017 22:39

In the words of steve Wright
Made up name.

Sweets101 · 25/02/2017 22:40

Sounds like a very attractive Lisa

fluentinsarcasm · 25/02/2017 22:43

Well I came across it whilst looking at Elizabethan names, so not made up.

OP posts:
WhisperedLoudest · 25/02/2017 22:45

It sounds made up.

How about Cordelia or Larissa?

Both lovely names Smile

stiffstink · 25/02/2017 22:47

The helpful robot in my phone is Cortana. She just told me that Corlissa is her cousin, but they don't get on. Something about them being incompatible...

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 25/02/2017 22:47

I'm afraid it does sound made up, no matter how genuine it actually is. Nobody will know how to spell it when they hear it spoken. Lots of people will mispronounce it when they see it written down. Is that really what you want for your daughter? She's the one who'll have to go through life with it.

namechange20050 · 25/02/2017 22:51

Absolutely awful.

fluentinsarcasm · 25/02/2017 22:53

i'm interested in old names, hadn't heard it before so thought I'd share it. Not planning on giving it to any daughters!

OP posts:
fluentinsarcasm · 25/02/2017 23:20

That killed that then! Grin

OP posts:
BeBeatrix · 25/02/2017 23:25

I think it's rather beautiful!

I'd never heard it before, and I'll admit that I'm swayed by the fact that it's a very old name rather than a made up one...

What Aww said
At first glimpse I thought the thread was about the hair straighteners

sycamore54321 · 26/02/2017 03:23

Another one who immediately thought curling tongs (why? Is there actually a brand called this?)

The sounds themselves are a bit overly fussy and frilly. It sounds very made-up to me even though you say it isn't (but check your source - internet naming websites are often wildly inaccurate). Similar but a bit more concise is the name Cora.

mathanxiety · 26/02/2017 08:08

Cor missus, did you say?

Bubblysqueak · 26/02/2017 08:14

I thought it was a typo and you were supposed to write Clarissa. Blush

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 26/02/2017 09:28

How about Carissa or Cordelia ?

Blossomdeary · 26/02/2017 09:29

Oh - definitely no - it is horrid!

It sounds like some grim medical condition!

fluentinsarcasm · 26/02/2017 09:46

Maybe the tongs thing is because of Babyliss

OP posts:
Sugarpiehoneyeye · 26/02/2017 11:54

Lissa is nice OP.

Usernamewithnodigits · 26/02/2017 13:33

Coralie
Melissa
Cornelia
Cressida

MrsMeeseeks · 26/02/2017 15:01

All names are made up.

Corlissa is dreadful!

Cor, Lissa, it's warm in here Grin

I've heard of Corliss, but not with the 'a' ending. They both sound slightly like cordless. It sounds like one of those romantic sounding mish mash names, like Corisande or Clarimunda, but I don't think it is.

WhenLoveAndCakeCollide · 26/02/2017 18:50

I have a friend named Corliss, I think the meaning is along the lines of 'care free, spirited', and I love the name (and meaning).

Never heard of Corlissa, but clearly just a variant of Corliss.

I'd much rather see a Corliss or Corlissa, then I would another Madison or Lexi.

reuset · 26/02/2017 19:10

No data for either on darkgreener, unsurprisingly.

Corlissa has grand total of four uses post 1905 (one as a middle name) with one, seemingly exclusive, example of a Lady Corlissa in the 15th century.

Corliss is more used with lots of examples, and is also widely used as a surname.

There are worse names I suppose.
