Thoughts? smile

EggsEleven Thu 23-Feb-17 13:14:38

Awful. Is it for a boy or girl?

MrsGB2225 Thu 23-Feb-17 13:15:49

I just see tree, sorry

LawJed Thu 23-Feb-17 13:16:37

A boy confused

Loyly Thu 23-Feb-17 13:18:04

I really dislike it.

Pleasemrstweedie Thu 23-Feb-17 13:18:44

Hmm, if you want to name your baby after a Hebridean island, try Lewis, Harris or, at a pinch, Coll.

OMGyoumustbekidding Thu 23-Feb-17 13:19:42

I don't dislike it. It is a place name, but it is unusual (probably better for a girl)

PovertyJetset Thu 23-Feb-17 13:20:26

Made up spelling? A lifetime of corrections and explanations and some people will judge that name as being indicative of being "chav" shock

ZogsAnon Thu 23-Feb-17 13:22:28

Is it pronounced Tie - ree or Tee - ree (I quite like the second.
I think a lot depends on your cultural background tbh, but if you like it - use it and no civilised person will criticise it to you.

Vanillamanilla1 Thu 23-Feb-17 13:24:11

It sounds made up
I don't like it

FreshStart2017 Thu 23-Feb-17 13:24:12

I only know girl's that have that name.

Gallavich Thu 23-Feb-17 13:24:28

It looks made up, even if it isn't.

BertrandRussell Thu 23-Feb-17 13:24:40

Awful.

ThroughThickAndThin01 Thu 23-Feb-17 13:24:59

Not great tbh.

Shallishanti Thu 23-Feb-17 13:25:01

it's an island

FreshStart2017 Thu 23-Feb-17 13:25:18

* but they spell their name Tiree.

LawJed Thu 23-Feb-17 13:25:53

No, it's not made up? hmm

Sirzy Thu 23-Feb-17 13:28:29

I read "Tyre" first. Certainly wouldn't be a name I would use

Haffdonga Thu 23-Feb-17 13:33:55

I can tell you like it would be a very unpopular choice on Mumsnet. If you really really like it then probably best not to ask here what other people think of it. You'll only hear negatives. Just stick with your own opinion.

If you want a name that people on MN like then go traditional, avoid names that start with Ty or sound invented.

BertrandRussell Thu 23-Feb-17 13:36:27

"No, it's not made up? hmm"

Isn't it?

Where does it come from?

Gallavich Thu 23-Feb-17 13:57:57

Apparently it's a Scottish island? Even so, it's not a person name.

EggsEleven Thu 23-Feb-17 13:58:45

Haff I'm not a fan of traditional names but I still think Tyree is a terrible name. Yes, if the OP loves it she should go for it but she did ask for opinions.

reuset Thu 23-Feb-17 14:02:52

Any Scottish posters heard of Tyree as a name?

I misread it as Terry, initially grin Would that do?

reuset Thu 23-Feb-17 14:05:53

To be fair it has a modest usage as a name, OP. Maximum of 13 in a given year, but still... That surprises me. What do you know about it?

CycleOnTheLEFT Thu 23-Feb-17 14:09:59

The island is Tiree. I don't know any Scottish people with that name.
