Purely hypothetical at this point but it's my favourite boys name by far and I've never seen it discussed on here before. So hit me with it MN, what do you think?

Hate it, sorry. Chavvy.

Surname is Masters so definitely wouldn't be Brandon James/Joseph, although they would work perfectly as middle names otherwise Grin

I've got a baby Brandon, so obviously biased but I love it! It was DH who suggested it due to his Irish connections and I was a bit Hmm about it at first, but it really really suits DS and now I love it.

I much prefer Brendan. Brandon sounds very American.

I don't know why, but I don't see it as a middle class name or as an elite upper class name, if you catch my drift, (I don't like the words chav or chavvy).

I think it sounds very masculine - just the sound of it is very solid and strong.

I don't like the name Brendan. I always see that name as belonging to a nervous and thin red-headed Irish sort of man, because I once knew a Brendan like that - and he got on my nerves. Brandon I see as being big and bold and robust as a bear, quite different. But a bit rough and ready and more practical than fanciful.

None of the above is logical. If you really really love it, I would use it. I think children have a habit of making a name entirely their own, influencing others to look at their name freshly because of the,.

I love it! To me it sounds very regal as it reminds me of Charles Brandon, 1st Duke of Suffolk (I'm sad I know).

First thought was of the place.

But as a place name it's Ok, though I do rather agree with the poster who prefers Brendan. Possibly because I knew a very good looking one in RL

Sounds a bit early 90s American to me. Makes me think of teenagers with baseball caps on backwards smoking weed.

I like it! It reminds me of Colonel Brandon in Sense & Sensibility Smile I don't think it's chavvy at all. Prefer it to Brendan too.

But I wouldn't pick a middle name beginning with J Grin

Thanks for all your replies! Big shout out to baby Brandon Grin

It's funny, I have a strong, pathological, illogical dislike of the name Brendan for all the reasons mentioned by Elven it's funny how strong the connotations for a name can be.

I don't see it as being chavvy (for want of a better word) at all. I can perfectly imagine a Dr Brandon as much as any other profession. It lacks a class association in my mind, like its neutral. I get that others will see this differently.

Ok, so of I like Brandon then what else might I like?

Brandon, I agree is 90s American. Brandon Lee (The Crow). I don't dislike it for that.
Going with that theme, thinking back to Miss Seventeen...

I like it. I taught a Brandon a few years ago. He was very polite, well behaved, kind, generally a lovely boy so I've got good associations with the name.
