Purely hypothetical at this point but it's my favourite boys name by far and I've never seen it discussed on here before. So hit me with it MN, what do you think?

Sugarpiehoneyeye Sat 18-Feb-17 23:23:20

It's a yes from me ! 😀

Sugarpiehoneyeye Sat 18-Feb-17 23:24:22

Any thoughts on a middle name ?
Brandon Joseph
Brandon James

pepperpot99 Sat 18-Feb-17 23:24:28

Hate it, sorry. Chavvy.

JujuMonster Sat 18-Feb-17 23:25:44

Surname is Masters so definitely wouldn't be Brandon James/Joseph, although they would work perfectly as middle names otherwise grin

Sophronia Sat 18-Feb-17 23:56:35

Not keen. I prefer Brendan.

DramaAlpaca Sat 18-Feb-17 23:58:22

I quite like it.

TheCakes Sat 18-Feb-17 23:58:55

I'm not keen either. Brendan is nicer.

I've got a baby Brandon, so obviously biased but I love it! It was DH who suggested it due to his Irish connections and I was a bit hmm about it at first, but it really really suits DS and now I love it.

I much prefer Brendan. Brandon sounds very American.

ElvenMoonwings Sun 19-Feb-17 22:36:41

I don't know why, but I don't see it as a middle class name or as an elite upper class name, if you catch my drift, (I don't like the words chav or chavvy).

I think it sounds very masculine - just the sound of it is very solid and strong.

I don't like the name Brendan. I always see that name as belonging to a nervous and thin red-headed Irish sort of man, because I once knew a Brendan like that - and he got on my nerves. Brandon I see as being big and bold and robust as a bear, quite different. But a bit rough and ready and more practical than fanciful.

None of the above is logical. If you really really love it, I would use it. I think children have a habit of making a name entirely their own, influencing others to look at their name freshly because of the,.

I love it! To me it sounds very regal as it reminds me of Charles Brandon, 1st Duke of Suffolk (I'm sad I know).

EdithWeston Mon 20-Feb-17 08:58:05

First thought was of the place.

But as a place name it's Ok, though I do rather agree with the poster who prefers Brendan. Possibly because I knew a very good looking one in RL <shallow>

FirstSeemItThenBeIt Mon 20-Feb-17 09:01:28

Sounds a bit early 90s American to me. Makes me think of teenagers with baseball caps on backwards smoking weed.

NameChange30 Mon 20-Feb-17 09:01:48

I like it! It reminds me of Colonel Brandon in Sense & Sensibility smile I don't think it's chavvy at all. Prefer it to Brendan too.

But I wouldn't pick a middle name beginning with J grin

JujuMonster Mon 20-Feb-17 12:35:03

Thanks for all your replies! Big shout out to baby Brandon grin

It's funny, I have a strong, pathological, illogical dislike of the name Brendan for all the reasons mentioned by Elven it's funny how strong the connotations for a name can be.

I don't see it as being chavvy (for want of a better word) at all. I can perfectly imagine a Dr Brandon as much as any other profession. It lacks a class association in my mind, like its neutral. I get that others will see this differently.

Ok, so of I like Brandon then what else might I like?

FrancisCrawford Mon 20-Feb-17 13:10:38

I like it

Just to harden your resolve against Brendan it means greasy haired!

troodiedoo Mon 20-Feb-17 13:14:51

It's a naughty boys name but it's nice enough.

BasicBetty Mon 20-Feb-17 14:32:20

It reminds me of the guy in Beverley Hills 90210! I think he was a Brandon? Not keen, sorry.

Kazzawazza69 Mon 20-Feb-17 21:31:40

I really dislike it. It sounds so harsh. Brendan is much nicer.

Strokethefurrywall Mon 20-Feb-17 21:39:10

Was on our list for DS1, as was Brendan!

Fabulous name!

AbernathysFringe Mon 20-Feb-17 22:20:09

Brandon, I agree is 90s American. Brandon Lee (The Crow). I don't dislike it for that.
Going with that theme, thinking back to Miss Seventeen...
Lochlan (Lochie)

paddyplaistow Mon 20-Feb-17 23:15:05

Brendan I like. Also Bradley.

Serin Wed 22-Feb-17 20:31:48

Brandon Flowers

LavenderRains Wed 22-Feb-17 21:03:21

I'm not keen, but purely because when I worked in a nursery we had about 4 & one of them was a true terrorgrin he threw a chair at me once!
