Ezra ra ra ra?

My OH is currently expecting our second. Our DD (Orla) is nearly 2.

We're starting to discuss names & if it's a boy, we both like Ezra. Trouble is that our surname starts with a 'RA'. So the two names kind of run in to each other. I was just wondering what people think and if this is a bit of a mouthful?

Other options are Max (but not sure we like either Maxwell or Maximilian) and Reuben (not sure about the alliteration either).

Why can't you just have max?

I love the name Ezra. What's the whole surname? Obviously "Ezra Ra" sounds silly but the whole thing might be ok.

I also like Max and would use Maxim as the full name. And I like Reuben too - we clearly have similar taste!

Other names I like are Toby and Leo (although Leo is probably too similar to Orla).

Maxfield

Feels like it's too short. Maybe being narrow minded. That said, I think preference is Ezra - just not sure it works with surname.

Maxfield?! Confused
Seriously. Maxim. So much better than the others.

Yes NameChange, we love Leo too!!

Full surname is Ranson. So Reuben Ranson or Ezra Ranson?

I love Ezra and Reuben. They are both top of my boys name list.
I also love Max but it's my Nephews name so a no go.

I'm not sure Ezra and a RA surname would work either

I love Ezra but DH never agreed. It's hard to tell if Ezra ra is to much without knowing the full surname tbh.

I think Ezra Ranson sounds fine. Better than Reuben imo

I think you can get away with it - and I love the name Ezra. Would have been top of my list if DD had been a boy.

Reuben Ranson sounds terrible, sorry!
I think Ezra Ranson sounds great, although it did make me think of Esther Rantzen, randomly!
Are you giving him a middle name?

Ezra is going to be pronounced often with a schwa vowel at the end (like the a in about). So it might not end up sounding particularly like your surname anyway, unless in over-emphasised speech.

E.g. Ezra Rand
Ezra Raymond
Ezra Ramos.

The A sounds are different.

Just when I was feeling confident in it, you said Ezther Rantzen!!

Sorry! Confused
I don't know why it just popped into my head, it might just be me...

Ezra Ra- does sound a bit clunky. Reuben Ra- is better.

You can use just Max - had the same Maxwell/Maxim(illian) debate years' ago and honestly don't know why it stopped us choosing straightforward Max.

Just to throw other names into the mix, Saul and Joel.

I think Ezra followed by Ra doesn't sound great.

I vote Max (just Max).

Donkeys
One of the those is the name we've picked!
I don't think I've ever come across anyone with a shortlist so close to mine!

Max feels like the safest bet. But that little more common (not that that's really a problem)

Saul and Joel not for me I'm afraid. One final option was Jude?

Maybe I'll just change my surname so we can choose Ezra!

I think Ezra sounds fine with your surname, honestly.

Sorry OP, Esther Rantzen ! 😂😂😂
Max Ranson sounds good, as does Leo Ranson.

Why not go for max and then maybe a more out there middle name if you want to liven it up a bit Smile

Oral & Max also sound great together Smile

I'd go with Jude. Esther Rantzen is the first thing everyone will think of, not that it matters. It doesn't flow well, though, it's a bit clunky to say.

Esther Rantzen is the first thing I thought of too, but no one from his generation will surely?
