For a child not born in April?

ShanghaiDiva Mon 06-Feb-17 09:52:10

Nope.

Kione Mon 06-Feb-17 09:53:52

No. Or you culd use the Spanish version Abril?

FurryTurnip Mon 06-Feb-17 09:54:17

No, it's lovely, and I'd say better if they aren't born in April as that would be a bit corny.

TabithaBethia Mon 06-Feb-17 09:54:31

no it's nice

EverythingEverywhere1234 Mon 06-Feb-17 09:57:33

No, I rather like it. I like Avril more though, the French version. I know two and they are both tough, funny, happy souls. To my ear, Avril sounds more 'namelike' than April.

likeacrow Mon 06-Feb-17 10:03:05

furry turnip that's what my dh says.
I do think it's a really pretty name, and it means "opening" (as in flowers) or new beginnings, which I think is lovely. Just worried she'll get "were you born in April?" Or "but you were born in March" all her life. Or we will as parents, which will irritate me!!

I have a neice with the name April, she was born in June. Her name is lovely smile

RozzlePops Mon 06-Feb-17 10:16:48

I have an April and she was born in April. It really suits her! A lot of people say ooh what a pretty name and only one or two ask if she was born in April.

Not sure she would have been called April if she wasn't born in April though.

Purplebluebird Mon 06-Feb-17 10:22:06

I love it! Regardless when child is born smile

Sugarpiehoneyeye Mon 06-Feb-17 10:44:28

Very pretty name.

KoalaDownUnder Mon 06-Feb-17 11:25:45

I like it a lot.

I know a couple of Aprils and have no idea when they were born; it's never occurred to me to ask! Obviously I know it comes from the month, but I just think of it as a name.

MrsBungle Mon 06-Feb-17 11:27:51

April is a lovely name.

GinIsIn Mon 06-Feb-17 11:27:56

My great aunt was called May. She was born in November. If you like it, go for it!

greeeen Mon 06-Feb-17 12:06:35

Pretty name, it wouldn't occur to me to ask about when she was born.

reuset Mon 06-Feb-17 15:37:25

No, of course not.

RedSauce Mon 06-Feb-17 15:47:04

This. I know a May too and have no idea when her birthday is. It's just a name. Lots of names come from other words but have no relation to the meaning of the word itself.

Just like I know a Willow and don't ask "were you born under a willow tree?" and I know a Violet and don't ask "were you born violet?"

thebakerwithboobs Mon 06-Feb-17 17:46:59

I'm called January and I was born in June. Genuinely, I can't remember a single person ever asking if I was born in January when hearing my name. April is lovely-conicidentally my mothr in law's name!

reuset Mon 06-Feb-17 17:48:53

Great name is January, Baker!

JiltedJohnsJulie Mon 06-Feb-17 17:49:20

Have worked with 2 Aprils both of whom had to put up with being called Ape.

leccybill Mon 06-Feb-17 17:53:34

Yeah my niece gets called Apes by everyone.

buttercup54321 Mon 06-Feb-17 18:13:16

April is pretty, but people will ask about the month she was born in.

thebakerwithboobs Mon 06-Feb-17 19:18:07

reuset why thank you (although I can take no credit for naming myself...)

buttercup they really won't! I have made it through numerous decades and cannot remember ever being asked if I was born in January. If it ever did happen, a simple 'no, June, and I like wine if you're thinking of gifts' will do!

ShoutOutToMyEx Mon 06-Feb-17 19:21:18

It's DP's new favourite name for a girl. I think he must have met an April he's become taken with!

RedSauce Mon 06-Feb-17 19:33:23

And re: thebakerwithboobs, if anything I would think that a name like January would be even MORE likely to face the question, simply because it's a less common name. So if she's never heard it, then I'm guessing an April is highly unlikely to!
