Elijah and Reuben or Elijah and Hugo.
Elijah is my older son.
The middle name will be Alexander

Both Hugo Alexander and Reuben Alexander sound good.

Elijah and Reuben is a bit Old Testament heavy. ds was friends with an Elijah with a big brother Solomon. I assumed the family were very religious (Protestant or Jewish) although they weren't so you might want to be aware that combo it might create that impression.

so you think go with Hugo?
I know what you mean about the names being a bit Old Testament heavy. My daughters name isn't a biblical name so maybe hers would seem odd with two Hebrew names.
Hmmm.
I'm just concerned the family might pull a face at Hugo but it's non of their business really is it. Someone on MN described it as a posh antiques dealers name but I don't mind that connotation at all

Well really you should just choose the name you like the best and think suits the baby when he arrives (assuming he's not already here?). It's just the connection that came to my mind when I read the two names. With a non-biblically named sister I'd probably just assume you liked the names :)

I think Reuben is probably more widely used than Hugo which may or may not appeal to you. The only other issue with Reuben is spelling.

Hugo definitely.

Wait to see the baby then you'll know. For DD2 I had all feminine and romantic names lined up until I saw her...she was so strong and exotic looking I couldn't have called her what I consider "pretty" names such as Adeline or Amelie etc, she just wouldn't have suited it. Definitely my advice is to not overthink it and just wait to see his little face.

Worrier, your so right about waiting to see him. My DH is mixed race (half Jamaican and half White English) so one of the kids has straight blonde hair, pale skin and green eyes, the other one is much darker complexion with brown curly hair and brown eyes so maybe I have no idea what this one will look like I need to see him maybe before I finally decide.

Oh no I'm so torn. I like them both for different reasons.
Elijah and Reuben.
Elijah and Hugo
I also liked Elijah and Jasper but DH said it's a dogs name

Talking about Old Testament names, fun fact: the actor Elijah Wood has an older brother, Zachariah.

I love Hugo, it is a bit posh but nothing wrong with that and I'm sure someone will raise an eyebrow no matter what you pick!

I like both, so second the idea of waiting till you see him.

At a push I slightly prefer Hugo.

Oh so true, there's always something to say about a baby name isn't there. Just have to say the name with enthusiasm and conviction.
I like Noah fish tank but DH thinks it's a bit meh.
Yes I think I'll wait till we meet him to make a firm decision.

We have an Elijah and are expecting DC2. Reuben is top of our boys list, I absolutely love it and it's more unusual. My DH is Jewish though, but I'm not and it's not particularly why we liked old testament names.

Oh and if you like the name don't worry about what your family thinks, they'll get used to it. We mentioned Reuben to my DB - he absolutely hates it, however I don't care he'll come around. But yes with DC1 we did have a shortlist of 5 names and waited a few days after he was born to officially name him.

Fibre we clearly have similar tastes in names then.
To be fair people probably don't realise that most of the most used boys names are all Hebrew/Biblical and still going strong after thousands of years.
I thought about all the people I know (only one is Jewish) with Hebrew names earlier and it astounded me I know an:
Aaron, Abel, Abigail, Adam, Benjamin, Beulah, Cain, Caleb, Daniel, David, Deborah, Elijah, Enoch, Esther, Eve, Ezra, Gabriel, Gideon, Isaac, Israel, Jacob, Jeremiah, Jethro, Job, Jonah, Joel, Jonathon, Joseph, Joshua, Josiah, Malachi, Micah, Miriam, Nathan, Noah, Rachel, Rebekah, Ruth, Samuel, Simeon, Zachariah
I probably know loads more they are just the people that I know that came into my mind when I thought about it. Crazy!!!
