Disclaimer:
(Not for a real child! Am name researching for my short story character. Hope you don't mind me posting here, but you lot know your stuff when it comes to strong opinions about names).

What is the very first picture that springs to mind on hearing Cadence Adelaide ? (surname Green).

Brief sentence describing how you imagine her age/ physical appearance/ Nationality/ any personality traits would be massively appreciated
(e.g. "7yrs old, ginger plaits, freckles, glasses, Irish, bit of a rebel, loves science and museums, hates being centre of attention...").

Thanks Smile

I imagine a little African girl full of fun
positivity and confidence.
I imagine more Sporty or Artistic rather than Academic.

17 years old, born in Australia to American parents who've now moved back to the states. She is generally a good kid but she did get herself into some trouble with the wrong crowd in the past. She wears quite a lot of make up and dresses fashionably.

Oh, you are wonderful. This is exactly what I wanted! Keep the opinions coming, folks...

Nashville. Character name! Cadence is a baby born to a famous Western music artist.

The only time I have ever heard this name is on Toddlers and Tiaras - it featured quite often! Hmm

There was a baby named Cadence on American series Nashville. That's what I think of when I see the name Cadence.

Though I probably should've said in the OP that she's under 12.

Initially it made me think of my little pony!
But as a girl- 11/12, strong willed, rebellious, very kind, into stereotypical girl things but into her sport. I know a Cadence and she is a beautiful mixed race girl, below shoulder curly hair, confident but not arrogant, kind but not a pushover.
With the surname Green it makes me think of the nickname Caggy

Cadence is blonde and beautiful, 17 years old, with the potential to become a world class show jumper. She is an English Rose, determined, but ruthless, and has already learned that a killer smile, can move mountains.

I thought immediately of Michelle's sister in American Pie 3. Blonde, about 20, pretty, all the guys love her. Quite intelligent and probably quite nice, but not particularly interesting. She'll be at uni studying English Lit, and will probably be a primary teacher when she graduates. She likes kids and will be good at her job. She prefers female company. She plays the flute and piano quite well but not spectacularly.

That was fun, give us another!

Cadence is a cycling term. I couldn't say what it means as I tune Dh out when he uses words like this. Our local cycling shop is called this. Not a human name surely?

kerala1 I think it means rhythm or musical flow as a human name

That's exactly what I was thinking KERALA. Cycling DH here too. It's something to do with the rhythm of the pedals... or something. I don't think of it as a name for a person either.

Ah, sorry, hadn't read the later posts so as to not colour my initial thoughts with other pp's thoughts!

10 year old Cadence is a sweet, shy girl. She's always polite and well behaved at school and at home. She loves to hear her Grandmother's stories about her life, and listens to her tell them intently, even though she's heard most of them before. She has a best friend (Amy) who is a little more devil may care, and Amy's mum is always going on about how she wishes Amy was as 'nice' and as 'good' as Cadence.

I instantly thought of an earnest bible basher. Mousy thin with a lot of issues.

I thought Cadence would be the entirely normal daughter of media types living in Balham.

God, I may just have to embellish my next draft with some of the material you're providing here...(credits will, of course, be given Wink ). Good stuff.

Especially love the line "...and has already learned that a killer smile can move mountains."

Really interesting how differently imagined one character can be, solely on the basis of her name.

Bit worrying about Cadence apparently having such a strong connection to "Toddlers and Tiaras"/ "My Little Pony"...I'm out of the loop so had no idea Shock.

The first thought that came into my head was brown hair in a neat ponytail.

10 or 11 year old girl from a rich American family who goes to an expensive private school and spends her weekends at a country club or travelling to different places. She's confident, articulate and very sporty but perhaps not very good at all the academic subjects. Her parents have some connection with Adelaide - maybe Cadence was conceived there, or they found out they were expecting her there.

I'd think of her as a child from a strongly religious family of a particular type of Christianity, so, eg, the US South, or some strains of African Christianity, or the sort of old-fashioned teetotal pamphleteers we used to have in the UK at one time. In the last case, Cadence would have brothers and sisters called things like Suffer-Not-Injustice and Grace.

I have a good friend with a 6 year old daughter named Cadence. She loved the name since uni. Mom is a liberal hippie who grew up on a farm in Maine and is now stuck raising her kids in Texas. Cadence is sparky but sweet and developing a southern drawl much to her mother's dismay!

tissues (I don't know how to make names bold!) it's the two chords that form the end of a musical phrase.
