Angel for a boy

Not for a baby of mine at the moment, sadly. But there was a little boy called Angel mentioned in today's Metro. I think it's lovely. What do you think?

Ilovecaindingle Tue 31-Jan-17 15:47:39

Mm no. Angelo (Adele ds) is OK tho.

Danglybits Tue 31-Jan-17 15:48:14

Oo yes, interesting how much difference one letter makes!

MycatsaPirate Tue 31-Jan-17 15:48:25

No.

Angelo or Angela.

But Angel as a name for anyone is slightly ridiculous.

Parsley1234 Tue 31-Jan-17 15:48:26

I love it also Raphael cosmo cosimo

Very popular in Spanish-speaking countries, where it's pronounced more like Ang-hell.

It does have precedent as an English male name too, like Angel Clare in Tess of the d'Urbervilles.

Floggingmolly Tue 31-Jan-17 15:52:53

No hmm

Sophronia Tue 31-Jan-17 16:21:34

I prefer Angelo.

Dolwar Tue 31-Jan-17 16:25:12

No. It sounds like the name of a goldfish. A female one at that. Not at all classy.

SunnySomer Tue 31-Jan-17 16:25:18

I know one, pronounced in the normal English way. I can see it being tempting when your DS is a tiny, delightful baby; it can seem a little incongruous when he's significantly older. The one I know seems to carry it off ok, though new people tend to do a double take. Or assume he's a girl.

GallivantingWildebeest Tue 31-Jan-17 16:27:12

No. A baby Angel - lovely.
A hulking 15yo Angel with his voice breaking and spots? No, thank you.
A grown-up Angel looking for a job? Bizarre.

Don't like it for a girl either.

IHeartKingThistle Tue 31-Jan-17 16:27:34

I know a little Angelus.

OllyBJolly Tue 31-Jan-17 16:31:45

Oh no - makes me think of Angel Clare of Tess of the d'Urbervilles! Weak and shallow.

thewideeyedpea Tue 31-Jan-17 16:32:47

Yuk. Bloody awful

girlelephant Tue 31-Jan-17 16:33:22

Makes me think of Buffy the Vampire Slayer so I don't like it

angeldelightedme Tue 31-Jan-17 16:34:48

All I can think is that they must HATE their son

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties Tue 31-Jan-17 16:35:53

It's a lot to live up to hmm

EssentialHummus Tue 31-Jan-17 16:37:37

I'd assume they were Spanish tbh.

Nzou1050 Tue 31-Jan-17 16:38:39

It's a Spanish boys name

Out2pasture Tue 31-Jan-17 16:39:04

Sadly it makes me think of them "passing", sort of tempting fate.

ArriettyClock1 Tue 31-Jan-17 16:40:14

No, terrible!

IfNotNowThenWhenever Tue 31-Jan-17 16:43:10

Yay! Buffy!

Riversiderunner Tue 31-Jan-17 16:44:06

no, awful

rainbowstardrops Tue 31-Jan-17 16:45:24

I work in a primary school and we have two Angels - both girls. One is but the other one not so much grin
I love Angelo for a boy. Haven't come across one of those yet.

IMissGin Tue 31-Jan-17 16:47:33

Angel for a human baby regardless of sex is awful
