I have a Charles/Charlie named after my grandad. Love the name but he's one of 10 Charlie's in a relatively small school. There are 3 called Max too though!

Sugarpiehoneyeye Thu 26-Jan-17 17:15:41

Max, it's a lovely name.

MarmiteDoesYouGood Thu 26-Jan-17 17:29:50

I like Max a lot. Don't like Charlie at all.

DramaAlpaca Thu 26-Jan-17 17:39:19

I'd vote for Max. I think it works as a short name in its own right as well as being a short form of other names.

If it was going to be Charles on the birth certificate but known as Charlie I'd probably go for that.

I've got both Charlie and max and I love both names obviously lol. I know a few Charlie's and they are all cheeky but in a good way and the Max's I know are all relaxed.

Both very popular and may start to sound dated as the fall out of favour. That may or may not bother you of course smile.

If I had to choose, then probably Max(imilan).

Max gets my vote!

mum2bejen Fri 27-Jan-17 09:45:02

I'd vote for Max.

I love the name Charlie (it's my son's middle name!) but I prefer Max as a first name for some reason!

ShutTheFridgeUp Fri 27-Jan-17 09:45:50

Another vote for Max smile

Chinnygirl Fri 27-Jan-17 09:48:37

Max is on my list smile

I have ds with one of those names and cat with the other! Both names are fab and I think they have really equivalent "weighting"/connotations IYKWIM (unlike maybe Charles and Jago or something) and so just go for the one you like best. Charles/Charlie I think will always work well. One good thing about Max is it can't really be abbreviated. Both really nice.

If you go for Charlie is it worth having Charles on the BC?

MintChocAddict Fri 27-Jan-17 10:34:58

See I don't get the birth certificate thing MrsEric Why put Charles on a birth certificate if his name's Charlie? confused
Usually someone comes along on these threads and asks 'but what if he wants to be a high court judge/important type/has a very serious job? No-one will take him seriously!'
A bit of paper makes hee haw difference. If he decides he wants to call himself Charles or whatever when he's older he can (birth certificate or no birth certificate)
I'd go with Charlie OP

MrsEricBana Fri 27-Jan-17 11:54:20

I don't know if he could say "just call me Charles" if he wasn't though. Agree though that if he'd only ever be Charlie then fine for that to be on BC.

He can call himself whatever he wants so long as it's not to commit fraud. You have to use your official name on official documents but not when introducing yourself to friends/colleagues etc.

I like both, with Max just shading it.

MiniMaxi Fri 27-Jan-17 13:23:14

Max - and I'm biased grin

massiveknickers Fri 27-Jan-17 15:12:58

Charlie. By a mile.
