First baby, Name choices

So we are having our first baby this year and have decided on boys names

  • Caleb or Cassius

Girls names are the struggle, I cannot fall in love with one! I like
  • Alice, Adeline, Violet or Matilda

Anyone have any opinions?

Thank you :-)

Caleb is good. There's a few musicians with that name so connotations people will have are pretty cool.

I struggle with Cassius as it is the slave name Mohammed Ali famously shed. So in my head now all I think is slavery when I hear that name.

I like Adeline, has the potential for variety of nicknames too if she likes when she gets older.

Aw thankyou for all your suggestions!

I love Adeline as its the french version of my mums name Adele

I'm lucky because his surname is lovely and goes with so many names.

Really don't like Cassius for the same reasons above. Much prefer Caleb. I like Reuben, Benjamin, Joshua.

I like Alice or Matilda of your girls' names. Tabitha is a good suggestion too. Love Eve, Lydia for girls.

I like Adeline best from your list. Tabitha is great too.

Muhammad Ali called it his "slave name" largely because that was what the Nation of Islam told their followers when converting and recruiting them. It really doesn't have any reflection on the name itself.

OP, in case you couldn't tell, I'm a fan of Cassius Grin

I really like Cassius- a really attractive boy's name. Caleb sounds a bit try-hard/trendy/cliche to me unless you're Irish, in which case it's fine.

Of your girls' names only Adeline jumps off the page at me (in a good way), but I prefer less used names. Alice is nice and classic so that's a good choice too. Violet is lovely but becoming very popular (if you care about that!). Matilda I just don't like- not sure why, maybe it just doesn't have any prettiness about it.

I think Caleb is lovely. And I'm not Irish (it's a Hebrew name - Old Testament). Tabitha is good too

Caleb is nice, and Kay or Cal are good nn from it.

Matilda is an AWESOME name, Matilda Alice would be a great combo. Also Violet is a strong name, and seems to be rising in popularity also.

Thankyou for all your inputs Smile

We are veering towards more traditional/biblical/Irish sounding names.

I loved Orla, but got thrown out the window when my little sister named her hamster Orla Walnut.

I do care about names being too popular, a lot of my friends go for the most popular names, I'd like something abit more traditional Blush hope that's not snobby
