Which boy's name do you prefer

Hi

Be kind please! I am 36 weeks and therefore a bit sensitive Grin

We have a shortlist of boys names, which we have REALLY struggled to agree and I am wondering which you like best. I would prefer not to hear that they are awful or that you really dislike any of them in particular because obviously we are considering them all. But I would love to hear which you genuinely like.

So, here goes:
Toby
Rory
Rufus
Benedict ("Ned" for short)
Sebastian ("Seb" for short)

Thank you! Flowers

Toby, Rufus or Benedict for me. Honestly they are all perfectly nice names though. As your list is short I would wait and see what suits him when he's born. Neither of my boys were given what had been the 'top' name on our lists!

Toby.

I like all of them.

My favourite is Rory but I might be biased Smile

I like the idea of using Ned as a shortening of Benedict, hadn't come across that before.

I think Rufus is probably my least favourite of the bunch.

Toby or Benedict for me (although I would use Tobias and nn as Toby)

Rufus is my favourite, followed by Sebastian and Benedict. Love Ned for a nn.
Rory is ok, I think the racing car has put me off it a bit. DS1 was a major fan.

I hate Toby although it's a MN loved name.

I love all of them, honestly Smile

Rufus is definitely my favourite, then Benedict. Lots of Sebastians and Tobys around at the moment so I'd discount those if that's a big concern for you. I do prefer Tobias "Toby" over just Toby as well. Rory is also lovely.

Bonus suggestion: Rupert?

Sebastian

Toby is the only one I like tbh. But as a nn for Tobias rather than a name in itself.

Sebastian or Benedict could work if you're super posh.

It's only a short list so wait until baby is born and it might feel obvious when you see him xx

I like all of them, but Sebastian is my favourite.

I wouldn't use a name where you are completely set on a specific shortening though because it might not end up that way. Benedict for example, is likely to end up as Ben not Ned, if that's going to drive you mad then don't use that name!

Thank you so much everyone! I am really cheered by the positive responses. It is very useful to get a "real world" view, particularly of names that are popular. We have two girls and our elder daughter is in a class with only 4 boys, so I have no sense at all about trends in boys names. I had really strong views about girls names but have found boys names so so hard. I agree, if our shortlist is ok, we will probably pick the final choice when he turns up. We may whittle it down a bit first though...

I like all of them , in the order: Toby, Sebastian, Benedict, Rory, Rufus.

Toby - getting very popular these days
Rory - It's okay
Rufus - not a fan
Benedict ("Ned" for short) - LOVE the name Benedict, but I do not like Ned at all. Plus, like people have said, he may only be Ned for you, with most people choosing Ben - you decide whether that would be a problem for you or not.
Sebastian ("Seb" for short) - LOVE this name too. It was on our list.

I love your names, all of them.
My favourites:
Rory
Benedict ("Ned" for short) (BUT DON'T GET THE NED NN COMING FROM THIS NAME??!)
Sebastian ("Seb" for short)

All nice names, OP. I'd keep all 5 on your shortlist and wait and see what he suits when he arrives.

Rory - but I have one so biased! Grin

Sebastian or Rory are my faves. Sebastian goes well with a shorter surname, and Rory is more of an all rounder in terms of matching I think. Good luck with everything!

Lovely list.

I really like them all. You can't go wrong with any of them.

Hi MockCroc, congratulations 💐
I have always loved Rory and Sebastian.
I think Benedict (Ned), is fabby, and very different.
You'll know, when you see him ! 😄

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 25/01/2017 14:50

If you are set on Ned I wouldn't use Benedict though. I think you'll find he might well get Ben outside of the family.
