Not Tessa - sounds like Tosser I'm afraid
Elena - I would pronounce e-len-a. Would miss pronunciation annoy you?
Alexandra- ok. Sandy = dog or hamster name
Camilla - nicest from list

Suggest:
Cecelia - Celia/ cece
Helena- Lena/ Nell/ nelly

I like Alexandra best, although I think Alex or Alexa or Sasha or Ali or even Lexi would be better nn than Sandy.

Elena will be constantly mispronounced as Eleanor because that's what it phonetically says 'El-en-a'.

Camilla just makes me think of Parker-Bowles.

Tessa is quite sweet. That would be my second choice.

I absolutely love Tess.

Tessa- cute, can't imagine on an adult.
Elena- love this, would automatically use your pronunciation as I know two who say it that way- it IS the right was to say it! Don't think it would require much correction, simply 'sorry it's actually El-ay-na' then that's it
Alexandra- okay, but sandy is awful. Assume you're Scottish but I still don't like it. Andie is better as a nn
Camilla- meh. Nn would be Milly. Prefer Camille said the French way

The only one I don't like from your list is Tessa, although it seems to get quite a lot of love on here? I order of preference:
Alexandra is lovely but I don't like the nn Sandy (reminds me of a middle/old age Scottish man with grey hair), I think there are much nicer ones as someone else has mentioned.
Elena I would pronounce how you said and is really pretty.
Camilla is also very prettySmile

Love the name Tess. It was on my short list of girls' names.

I also like Tessa, but think Tess is simple and very pretty. And not popular, which is a huge plus imo.

Not keen on any of the others.

Tess/a - I'm not sure on this one. I like it, but our Shepherd has a dog named Tess, so I just think collie dog when I see it!

Elena - like it. I know a really lovely girl aged around 10 called Elena, pronounced as you do.

Alexandra - Like this too. Not keen on Sandy though. 16yr old Dd1 has a friend with the nn Xa (pronounced like the beginning of Zara) which everyone thinks is supper cool.

Camilla - This is OK, but like a pp I prefer Camille.

Tessa - Ok
Elena - love this! Nickname for me would probably be Lena through
Alexandra - love. Sandy though, I dislike, I just hear: loook at me I'm saaaaaandra dee' on a loop
Camilla - prince Charles wife.

  • Tess/a - I like either name, also Tessie.
  • Elena - really cute, pretty name, and Laina would be a cut nn.
  • Alexandra - nice classic name, and Sandra is a good nn. Do you like the nn Alex though? As people would probably shorten it to Alex.
  • Camilla - LOVE this name. Cam is a brilliant nn. Recon this name won't become too popular either.

Thanks all.

Weird that Tess seems to be very 'marmite'!!

Hadn't really though how annoying it could be if Elena is constantly mispronounced or guessed at. We've even discussed ourselves which way it would be pronounced which I suppose is a hint that it isn't obvious! Can't have a Lena because of a family connection.

Also, everyone hates Sandy, which is good to know, but the name Alexandra of itself seems to go down pretty well. Might go for an Alex then (which I like too).

I also love Camilla. Agree it won't get too popular because of CPB. But I reckon she's not such a bad egg, and I think it's so pretty.

Elena- I knew one and she pronounced it E-Lain-A
Also like Camilla

I love Tess, I imagine somebody quite 'sparky' and fiesty having that name.

Camilla is the total opposite, I imagine a horsey/sloany type (I wonder why..?) but I do like the name.

Elena would bug me because of the spelling/pronunciation issues and Sandy is awful.

Alex is nice though.

Alexandra/Alex is a lovely classic name. I also like Elena, but if you wanted to be more certain on how people will pronounce it, how about using the spelling Elaina?

I love the name Camilla. Love it.
Also really like Alexandra (really dislike Sandy though!)
Tess is great but don't like Tessa.
