Morning ladies

The name is Oriana

Partner likes it, we have others, but I'm just not sure.

I don't mean to offend if anyone has used this name, but to me it just doesn't flow off the tongue well, and sounds a bit made up.

Would appreciate your thoughts xx

I agree it doesn't flow off the tongue very easily. Would you consider Ariana instead?

I think it's nice enough but agree it doesn't flow off the tongue. This is important. It will be a pain to say day in day out. She will end up being called a nickname instead, probably Ori.
I love more unusual names, but I wouldn't choose this one.

It's a bit frilly and made up sounding for me.

Friolero - I think I'll stay away from the variants ending with 'ana', I just don't get them!

Yes I thought ship. Quite nice all the same.

I think people are automatically going to assume it's Ariana anyway and you/she will have a lifetime of correcting them.

I know an Irish Oriana. It's very pretty. People will get it fairly quickly.

I worked with a South African Oriana, no issues at the time (over 10 years ago) but I suppose Ariana is more popular now than in the past so it will probably be confused for it.

What About Orianne?

My friend has a pony called Oliana which I think is quite nice.

I prefer Ariana, but then I suppose people will think you named your child after the pop star du jour...

It's not terrible, but it does sound a little made up and doesn't really stand out to me. Yes, it's technically very unusual, but still one of a very trendy type - long, frilly, exotic sounding. I like Ariana more, or even better Ariane. Much more streamlined and understated chic to me Smile

What else is on your list?

I know an Oria - I prefer that name I think, it's pronounce 'oryah'

I think cruise ship too.

Prefer Ariana or Arianna.

I think it is a pretty and unusual name, but does sound a little made-up. Have you considered Oliviana?

HoratioNightboy · 23/01/2017 00:45

I like it - it's a mediaeval English name, isn't it? Oriante is a variant, possibly a bit too unusal though.
