Morning ladies

The name is Oriana

Partner likes it, we have others, but I'm just not sure.

I don't mean to offend if anyone has used this name, but to me it just doesn't flow off the tongue well, and sounds a bit made up.

Would appreciate your thoughts xx

Friolero Sat 21-Jan-17 07:42:27

I agree it doesn't flow off the tongue very easily. Would you consider Ariana instead?

theothercatpurred Sat 21-Jan-17 07:47:53

I think it's nice enough but agree it doesn't flow off the tongue. This is important. It will be a pain to say day in day out. She will end up being called a nickname instead, probably Ori.
I love more unusual names, but I wouldn't choose this one.

I think of elizabeth 1st. Nice name but I think Ariana better.

Costacoffeeplease Sat 21-Jan-17 07:53:12

Cruise ship

ILoveBulldogs Sat 21-Jan-17 07:55:02

Thank you, you've all seconded my thoughts 😊

Costa - haha Yeh it is!!!

NotTodaySatan Sat 21-Jan-17 07:55:29

It's a bit frilly and made up sounding for me.

ILoveBulldogs Sat 21-Jan-17 07:56:23

Friolero - I think I'll stay away from the variants ending with 'ana', I just don't get them!

confusedandemployed Sat 21-Jan-17 07:56:24

Yes I thought ship. Quite nice all the same.

CactusFred Sat 21-Jan-17 07:56:24

I have an American friend with an Oriana. I like it.

onedayimightforget Sat 21-Jan-17 07:56:52

I think people are automatically going to assume it's Ariana anyway and you/she will have a lifetime of correcting them.

babyblabber Sat 21-Jan-17 07:58:33

I know an Irish Oriana. It's very pretty. People will get it fairly quickly.

ChristopherWren Sat 21-Jan-17 08:09:44

I also think cruise ship....

TDmoocher Sat 21-Jan-17 09:36:40

I worked with a South African Oriana, no issues at the time (over 10 years ago) but I suppose Ariana is more popular now than in the past so it will probably be confused for it.

What About Orianne?

buckyou Sat 21-Jan-17 09:48:51

My friend has a pony called Oliana which I think is quite nice.

Pipilangstrumpf Sat 21-Jan-17 09:58:12

I like the look and sound of Oriana. It's easy to say and remember

Sugarpiehoneyeye Sat 21-Jan-17 10:34:42

I like it. 😀

SingingSilver Sat 21-Jan-17 11:05:50

I prefer Ariana, but then I suppose people will think you named your child after the pop star du jour...

Awwlookatmybabyspider Sat 21-Jan-17 11:11:27

How is it pronounced.

seven201 Sat 21-Jan-17 11:14:29

My first thought was cruise ship, second was but it is a nice name. X

seven201 Sat 21-Jan-17 11:14:54

Oops sorry about the x. Very un mumsnet of me!

Jooni Sat 21-Jan-17 11:51:52

It's not terrible, but it does sound a little made up and doesn't really stand out to me. Yes, it's technically very unusual, but still one of a very trendy type - long, frilly, exotic sounding. I like Ariana more, or even better Ariane. Much more streamlined and understated chic to me smile

What else is on your list?

SoOverPeppa123 Sun 22-Jan-17 21:36:21

I know an Oria - I prefer that name I think, it's pronounce 'oryah'

DramaAlpaca Sun 22-Jan-17 22:09:36

I think cruise ship too.

Prefer Ariana or Arianna.

Joeybee Sun 22-Jan-17 22:15:55

I think it is a pretty and unusual name, but does sound a little made-up. Have you considered Oliviana?
