What do you think of this name? JJ or Jay for NN?

Is Joshua too popular / boring? I've not really given it much thought before but I've kind of given the decision to my husband because I say I don't like anything and he's come up with Joshua James!

I think it's ok, although it does remind me of Josh Duggar (although he's not exactly an A lister so probably not an issue!)

Jay is nice as a nickname. You could also have Joss.

Perfectly nice although too common for me to ever choose. Not sure why nicknames really matter if you like the actual name you've picked?

Joshua is nice and so is Jay.

JJ isn't and neither is Josh.

I like it Smile

You won't be able to specify nicknames though - they have a habit of just evolving. Your son will be almost certainly be known as JJ with a name like that. I doubt if Jay would stick. Fine as long as you like JJ.

Joshua James is nice.

As long as your last name doesn't end with J as well...

I have a Joshua James. When he was born a couple of people visibly sneered at it yet I've heard of a few others so it can't be that bad a name.

He's never been called JJ

Fwiw I was adamant he wouldn't be called Joshua but as soon as he was born i "knew" it was his name.

I know several Joshua James. Nothing wrong with it but not very inspiring IMO.

What about Jasper James? I'm quite liking how JJ names sound with our surname (Addy).

May have some convincing to do with the husband for Jasper.

I prefer Jasper James. I love James as a middle name but for some reason can't bring myself to like Joshua.

A friend of mine is Joshua James. I think it's perfectly fine as a name. He's never gone by JJ though (just Josh) so you'd probably have to promote that one yourself!

I have a Joshua with James as first of two middle names. So far never used JJ as a nickname but I like having it as an option, it was part of my reason for choosing it.

I didn't realise quite how popular Joshua was when we chose it - sometimes feels like every other boy is a Josh. But I don't regret the choice at all.

I have a Joshua he was named Joshua Paul after his grandfather

It reminds me of the Duggars or Britney Spears (think he son is Jayden James, but it sounds similar)... It's a bit too obviously Biblical, and a bit too "intentionally matching" sounding.

I hate JJ though, and I'm not a fan of Jay (better than JJ). I think it'd be incredibly hard to avoid Josh though.

I think we are quite keen on Jasper James now. Bit different it terms of popularity compared to Joshua though.. It's not even in the top 100!

Does that mean it's just a shit name? I really like it. I thought Jasper to start off with but then we've gone down the more popular / traditional route.

Jasper is becoming more popular, it's been increasing in popularity each year since 2006.

How about Joseph James?

My favourite singer is called Joshua James, and for that reason I love it!

I think Jasper is a great name.

We chose Joshua as I know I tend to shorten names to nicknames so I liked having options and Jasper wouldn't have suited us for that reason, as there's no obvious nickname. DS is Joshua, Joshy or Josh depending how the mood takes me!
