Our surname is Meadows and I love the name Hazel, just wondering if it would be ok?

MarmiteDoesYouGood Fri 13-Jan-17 18:18:19

Why wouldn't it be?

PointlessUsername Fri 13-Jan-17 18:19:01

Sounds pretty.

ExpectoPatronummmm Fri 13-Jan-17 20:21:27

I think it sounds like a housing estate

Nonameyet1 Fri 13-Jan-17 21:07:31

I don't love it but kind of sweet.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler Fri 13-Jan-17 21:10:06

I also think it sounds like a "thing". Either a housing estate or a nursing home mainly.

Hazel is a pretty name, but I wouldn't use it with your surname. Sorry!

I think it's fine, Hazel Meadows. A little on the Maisie Raine or Rosemary & Thyme side of things... (in fact has there not been a TV series featuring someone called Hazel Meadows or similar?)

If not then why not. Meadows though... what a dream of a surname especially for a girl!! So pretty and goes with so many things! Just as well my surname isn't Meadows (also, I haven't got a girl!) because I would be going all-out on the frilly first names. I wouldn't be able to resist grin

Annabelle Meadows.. ahh...

Yes if you don't mind her having the p*ss taken out of her for it her entire unmarried life

It's a bit on the twee side but I don't think it's a pisstakibg name. Hazel trees don't tend to come in meadows! It's not like it's Poppy Fields or Polly Esther Cotton.

Not a fan tbh

onlymrsmac Sat 14-Jan-17 19:43:23

I love it star

I love both names but it does sound like a location. Meadows is a gorgeous surname.

TDmoocher Sat 14-Jan-17 20:29:03

According to Google it's a street in Nottingham

Charming. Just love it! I'd use it. Surnames change so if you love Hazel go for it.

I can't see a problem with it. Pretty name and not too twee IMO.

Barnes79 Sat 21-Jan-17 14:16:34

It does sound like a place (but love the name Hazel). I have a similar issue as my surname is Barnes (which could also be spelt Barns) and then can sound like a place if the wrong first name is used e.g., Jackson or Harrison

KoalaDownUnder Sun 22-Jan-17 06:07:12

No. I think it sounds silly, TBH - housing estate or retirement home.

SuffolkingGrand Sun 22-Jan-17 06:14:29

Retirement home.

Pluto30 Sun 22-Jan-17 06:35:41

Sounds v similar to the retirement village my DH owns. grin

I love Hazel, but I'd scratch it with your surname.

Mol1628 Sun 22-Jan-17 06:41:07

Not with that surname no.

DorotheaHomeAlone Sun 22-Jan-17 06:41:08

No. Your suspicions are correct. It sounds silly. Lots of lovely non-nature names out there.

DowhatIwanttodo Sun 22-Jan-17 08:46:19

I don't like the name Hazel anyway. I know lots of Hazels 50+ and they are a type. Not a cool name.

GinIsIn Sun 22-Jan-17 08:48:59

It does sound like a nursing home. Sorry!

BlytheOfWindyWillows Sun 22-Jan-17 11:44:40

It's a street in Hucknall smile

Joeybee Sun 22-Jan-17 23:16:35

It sounds a but like a nursing home or something to me. It is a lovely name though. Maybe look for a different style of name...perhaps nature names will just not go with your surname.
