James/Jimmy or Theodore/Teddy?

Would be Jimmy/Teddy, day-to-day and James/Theodore, on BC. Please don't say you prefer Jamie/Theo, etc. as we have chosen the NNs we like, but he can pick when he wants to, but while he can't, we have decided on Jimmy/Teddy. Can people also not start with the "I don't get the picking NNs thing, I think that's odd, etc." Grin thank you!

Which would you pick???

James/Jimmy for me. I don't really like Jimmy but there are so many little Teddy's running about at the moment that it's become boring. It's also a silly name for a grown man (which your son will become) if you ask me, but at least you are going for sensible full names.

If he doesn't like Teddy, he can pick Theo/Theodore Smile

I like both equally. I my experience Theodore is more unusual and I'd be drawn to that I think. My 22 year old DD says that when she eventually has a baby, her chosen boys name would be Theodore/Teddy. -personally I do prefer Theo though-

I think Theodore is the nicer name and as an added benefit it has the nicest NNs too.

I'd go with Theodore... but as a mum of a Theo am massively biased Grin

I prefer James as it's more classic and Theodore is very 'now' and quite newly popular.

James. Theodore is a trendy name and will date, ditto Teddy and Theo. James is a classic name that is always popular. I prefer Jamie to Jim/Jimmy but you don't and it's your baby. Jimmy is fine though.

This is a tough one for me as I like James better than Theodore, but Teddy better than Jimmy. So I'm going to go for Theodore/Teddy but would you consider using both names, Theodore James, so he has all the options when he's older?

Teddy much cuter
Jimmy makes me think of the creepy Jimmy Saville.

James/Jimmy!

Love it.

Can't stand Theodore/Theo/Ted/Teddy. Very "now". Teddy is vapid.

Theodore (I prefer nn Theo though).

Theodore/Teddy

Agree that Theodore has seen a resurgence in popularity lately, but it's a very long-established name and I don't think it will date badly at all. You can't really win with "now" names because popular names feel trendy and unusual names are also a big trend at the moment. The safe option I suppose is to go for a perennial classic like James but I do find it quite uninspiring and I'm not keen on Jimmy.

Don't like James but really like Theodore and all the associated nicknames are great too imo.

I prefer James/Jimmy

Theodore/Teddy is a bit 'of the moment' where as James/Jimmy is timeless

Love Teddy but really don't like Theodore. Seems a bit 'wet' to me, I don't know why!

James and Jimmy are okay so I'd go for that as I like both the long and short version

Theodore - love it!

To those saying Theodore is very now and will date badly - it predates the name James by about 6 centuries... Grin
