Archer or Rufus?

Any opinions and which do you prefer, Archer or Rufus? Former is DH's great grandad's name, very Victorian sounding but I think it's quite cool. Latter is my old favourite, I think it's lovely, but have been slightly put off by dog comments and maybe it sounds a bit lispy...? What are you thoughts?

All the dogs I know are called Max, Tilly, Lily, Poppy, Stanley, Sid, Ben, Sam, Henry, Alfie, and funnily enough Archer. Have never ever come across a Rufus.

Rufus - Archer/Archie very common around here. I do know a dog called Rufus, but also know dogs called Max, Jack, Rory, Molly, Maddie, Jessie etc and know kids with all those names too, and it doesn't seem to be a problem.

Archer would just become Archie I guess but at least he would have proper name on BC.

Prefer Rufus, but do think it favours those with red (or reddish blond) hair, or perhaps a ruddy complexion. And of those in your family trees?

Not keen on either, I slightly prefer Archer though.

Not so keen on Archer, it'll become Archie which is popular and a bit trendy.

I love both! But prefer Archer (we have one). Times are a changin for sure, a year or so ago Archer was unpopular on MN - too surnamey, too American etc - great to see ppl are coming round to it! It's a gorgeous name x

Thanks all, 50/50 and still undecided! SickRose that's so funny, seems I can't stay away from the dog names!! There is a small chance he'll have red-ish hair, but that almost puts me off Rufus as a bit literal? I think I prefer the non-obvious like a blonde India or a dark Hamish.
