Thoughts please on this name. I've just come across it and thought it was rather nice. Unusual but easy to say/spell?

SummerHouse Sat 07-Jan-17 15:16:39

For a girl? How do you say it? Is it roona or runner?

FrancisCrawford Sat 07-Jan-17 15:16:39

Looks like Rona gone wrong I'm afraid.
Or Luna with an R instead of an L
I'd assume it was a typo

BrightRedSpinner Sat 07-Jan-17 15:17:29

I don't like it, personally.

EssentialHummus Sat 07-Jan-17 15:17:43

I don't like it - "rue".

Nishky Sat 07-Jan-17 15:17:46

It's lovely. Means Mighty Strength apparently.

Loyly Sat 07-Jan-17 15:18:26

I don't like it either.

There isn't a second r in Runa, so it couldn't be pronounced runner.

whirliebird Sat 07-Jan-17 15:24:00

It means secret/flowing.
I assumed it was pronounced 'Roo-na'?
It's Norwegian so I appreciate its not to everyone's taste. I just thought it was a nice name for a girl. X

I know two Norwegian people called Rune (pronounced Runa). They're both men.

whirliebird Sat 07-Jan-17 15:27:47

Yes, Rune is the male equivalent :-)

SpotTheDuck Sat 07-Jan-17 15:41:56

I sort of like it, but it's going to get auto-corrected to Luna a lot

TinyTyrants Sat 07-Jan-17 15:44:57

I have a Luna, we met a Runa whilst out one day. It's a bit of a strange one. You'll forever be correcting people/spelling it.

I like it, I used to know a girl at school with that name she was an absolute sweetheart. So I associate it with a lovely old school friend.

I quite like it. There are other 'unusual' Nordic names I prefer, but it's really nice smile!!

Saralyn Sat 07-Jan-17 17:36:29

Yes, it is pronounced Roo-nah, but with a "rolling" R (roughly like Scottish people pronounce the r)

Rune is pronounced differently, but it is difficult for English speakers to hear the difference (for Norwegians there is a clear difference).

Runa is a quite rare name in Norway, the male equivalent is more common.

bloodymaria Sat 07-Jan-17 17:40:24

I really like it, never heard it before but it's nice.

Sophronia Sat 07-Jan-17 20:27:37

I like it!

Grew up next door to a Runa and she is Indian Hindu.

celeryeater Mon 09-Jan-17 00:16:28

I think it's lovely

UserOne Mon 09-Jan-17 01:00:19

I quite like it. Different in a good way.

UserOne Mon 09-Jan-17 01:01:05

And pronunciation seemed obvious to me from the spelling.
