Bilbo for a boy?

Not really, just wanted to entice you in 😄

Lovely ladies of Mumsnet, please help! We're having a boy this Spring and we're really struggling for names we both like.

We'd like something that is modern, sounds lovely and is not too popular - it will be followed by, probably, David then our one-syllable surname that goes well with most names.

Names I like but are not 'the one':
Julian
Kit
Vincent
Patrick
Ali (Alastair)
Shay

Names DH likes, but I'm not so sure about:
Elijah
Caleb
Gene
Dylan

I know there's a bit of an eclectic mix there so I'm just hoping for some inspiration. Totally open-minded at this stage 😊

I like Caleb from your list.

Why not Christopher, shortened to Kit?

I have a Patrick, by the way- it's a fab name.

BertrandRussell Wed 04-Jan-17 10:47:26

Zachary?

SausageSoda Wed 04-Jan-17 10:48:41

I love Gus but am not keen on Angus. Another alternative is Magnus which I'm undecided on.

BitOutOfPractice Wed 04-Jan-17 10:49:00

Yes I love Kit too. It always sounds so friendly to me.

Patrick also lovely.

Congrats by the way. Maybe Bilbo for a middle name? wink

catsarenice Wed 04-Jan-17 10:59:00

When I was about 12 I said if I ever had a boy he would be called Bilbo! How about Ellis?

MauiChristmas Wed 04-Jan-17 10:59:36

Gandalf?

Hellochicken Wed 04-Jan-17 10:59:40

My suggestions weren't that modern though!

Glitterous Wed 04-Jan-17 11:00:05

Vincent! Quite like Gene though, we'll Eugene

MollyHuaCha Wed 04-Jan-17 11:02:51

Bilbo...why not? 😁

Patienceisvirtuous Wed 04-Jan-17 11:05:08

I'm glad my ploy worked 😄 Am feeling inspired and your confirmations re some of my names are making me like them more. Some great food for thought.

Am feeling Christopher 'Kit' and Seamus 'Shay'.

Also still liking Patrick. Bertrand does your Patrick get 'Paddy'? (Which I like as a nn).

Patienceisvirtuous Wed 04-Jan-17 11:06:24

hellochicken I quite like Paul John smile

Patienceisvirtuous Wed 04-Jan-17 11:08:54

Bitoutof thanks smile He's a long-awaited babe after much trying/several losses. Discussing names still feels like tempting fate but am trying to have a bit of hope that things will go okay.

PotOfYoghurt Wed 04-Jan-17 11:12:14

Kit was the first one that jumped out at me too.

Congratulations and best wishes for the rest of your pregnancy!

BitOutOfPractice Wed 04-Jan-17 12:18:33

Oh double congrats then Patience. Everything crossed for you thanks

Natsku Wed 04-Jan-17 12:24:35

Another vote for Kit, although long form Christopher as Kit David Name doesn't roll off the tongue as well as Christopher David Name.

Patienceisvirtuous Wed 04-Jan-17 13:20:01

Yeah totally agree Natsku

Ilovenannyplum Wed 04-Jan-17 13:35:56

I'm married to a Patrick, he has never been Paddy, his friends call him Pat but me and our families call him Patrick

I like Dylan and Kit (but not Christopher) from your list smile
