I bloody love this name! It's biblical and lovely I love biblical names and would go well with DD's name, IMO. Thoughts?

It is a much discussed name on MN

to be honest, I think we are set on Jonah Henry if I ever have a son, as it was the name we had set when we had DD. Just looking at others though, for no reason... It just helps boredom I suppose.

I think it's different to Jayden imo, as I don't think people respect the biblical aspect when they pick Jayden. Jadon is definitely different.

I think it's probably a good idea to wait until you are pregnant to 'be set' on anything at all.

You might change your mind dozens of times before then.

But since you asked, I do not like the name Jadon. I don't think people are going to 'respect the biblical aspect' and I don't see it as any different from Jayden. In fact I have seen people argue on here that Jayden is a biblical name. Which funny because unlike many other biblical names it was pretty much unheard of and unused until Jayden Smith was born and now suddenly everyone who reads Take a Break and sits on their fat arse in their leggings watching too much daytime TV just loves it and it's not just a made up celeb baby name, it's biblical doncha know?

Magic - goodness, I know Jayden, Brayden, Hayden, Flingaden and other whatever ayden names out there are not liked on here but that comment really was quite something. I wouldn't argue that Jayden is biblical, as yeah, it stems from a biblical name, but I suppose it isn't biblical. I see that Jadon is still going to be judged and whatever else, so I definitely probably won't use it (although it is lovely) but that's why I asked :) mind you, its Jaden Smith, so the Jayden spelling didn't come from them.

Jayden and Jadon are pronounced the same, though.

If someone hears Jadon, they're hearing Jayden/Jaiden/Jaden, and if they see Jadon, they're just going to assume (unless very familiar with the Bible, as it's not a common Biblical name) that you've chosen yet another "unique" spelling of Jayden.

I don't actually dislike the name (it's received very negatively and does, admittedly, have negative class associations), but it's had its moment (among all of the Aidans, Braydens, Kaydens and Haydens), and therefore sounds a bit dated.

As for Jaden Smith being the reason the name became popular... just nah.

Sorry my mistake about Jaden Smith but it's irrelevant really, all the current versions of the name stem from being inspired by a celebrity baby name that was, let's face it, made up as an homage to his mother's name Jada.

If you want to like Jadon because it's biblical then go ahead but rightly or wrongly people are going to hear it and make the same assumptions that I did.

Magic, I have a 23yo cousin named Jayden... Jaden Smith wasn't even a blip in Jada's uterus at that point.

Pluto I completely disagree. I can't be bothered to do this right now as I have to get up for work soon but I think if you looked into the rising popularity of the name both in the US and the UK you'd probably find (I'd bet money on it) that it was virtually nowhere on any chart and certainly not within the top 100 or even 500 then within five years of Jaden Smith being born it started to figure quite strongly and within ten years quite prominently.

It happens. It's happening now with Harper. It has happened with loads of celeb baby names. Not Apple, weirdly....

It's not just celeb baby names but any inspiration from popular culture - look at what happened with Chardonnay from Footballers' Wives. What was supposed to be a sly dig at trashy glamour models and WAGs turned into the name of choice for a few unfortunate girls whose mothers didn't get the joke and thought it was classy. Then we had the Moets and the Chanels.....

Madison the mermaid character in Splash is another example. It was completely unheard of as a girl's name before then. The irony is she came out of the sea and found herself in Madison Square Gardens, needed a name so chose that. That started a fad for the name Madison which then turned into a fad for naming children after places.

Well, according to stats from my state in NSW, Jayden has been in the top 100 since 1993. It was at 81 in 1993, and no. 24 in 1998 (the same year that Jaden Smith was born). Actually, in 1997, it was at no. 20 with 350 Jaydens being born that year in just my state alone. That precedes Jaden Smith.

So it seems more likely that the popularity of Jayden arose from elsewhere and Jada and Will just followed the trend.

Okay I stand corrected that it existed and was rising in popularity but to just from 81 to 24 the year he was born, there had to be a spike caused by that.

Maybe it's an Australian thing. I had babies in 1992 and 1995 in the UK and I have no recollection of it being on anyone's radar until after Jaden Smith.

I remember it becoming a lot more popular after Britney named her son Jayden James, although it was already gradually increasing before that.

I have a Jayden. Born in 1999. I chose the name in 1996 when it was used in Star Trek.
