Umm..... It's rather austere and Victorian. It's the sort of thing an evil great-aunt would be called in a Dickens novel.

In fact the only two Augustas I can think of off-hand are both 'Aunt Augusta's from literature. One from Graham Greene and one from Oscar Wilde.

I wouldn't!

Matronly and domineering sounding.

I think it's a great name. I know a young one and it is cool on her.

Makes me think of Gussie Fink-Nottle from Jeeves & Wooster

It's also a city in Georgia

I love it.

I think it is very underused and is due a revival.

It's been a royal name for centuries so isn't 'chavvy'.

Like it. I know a lovely girl called Gussie.

I played Lady Bracknell once - she was Aunt Augusta and not the most likeable of characters .....

What about Octavia?

I know one. She gets called Gussie. It's actually really nice in real life.

Very pretty, but. I don't think it'd suit. Unless baby is due or was conceived in August.

I liked it wanted for dd2 but every single other person in my life including Dh hated it. Mentioned it to dd2 recently she's now 8 and hates it too.

It's lovely - my ds has the male version!
Also LOVE Albertine / Albertina

LOVE Augusta and the other suggestions here. Now I think about it there is something clear and strong sounding about the 'A' look or sound of these names that really appeals.

I want to like it but Gussie makes me think of gussets.

Aurora?
Aurelia?
Agatha?
Araminta?

It's the emphasis on the 'gust' that puts me off I think. I much prefer just August. I think it's usually a boy's name, but that wouldn't put me off. April/May/June/Sunday/Wednesday... August!

Having said that I much prefer Alberta. Future DD would be Adelaide.

Albertine is nice.
Love your username Bendy.

Mike

Albertina/Albertine is a lovely name. I love Alberta but really dislike the nn Berta.
I don't think somebody would use the nn Berta for somebody called Albertine.
