This is the name my DSIL likes for a girl. What do you think? Middle name would be Mary.

Amanda Hugnkiss.

I actually like it, as long as it's used in full.

It's outdated sounding, honestly.

Prefer Miranda, which has a similar sound.

Mary is lovely, however. Smile

Better than yet another Evie-Mae or Isla

I like it.

I like it but I may be biased!

Amanda Mary is beautiful.

Amanda makes a refreshing change from all the Evies, Ellies and other cutesy names. I like that's it's not fashionable.

I love it. Due a revival

I've always loved Amanda.

I think it's very 1970's and the middle name has got to be Jane, it's the law or something. Wink

Not a an of Mary.

But Amanda is nice.

Skang · 01/01/2017 09:37

Doesn't it sound a bit 'I need a man da marry'

Report
Sugarpiehoneyeye · 01/01/2017 10:37

No.

Report
Skang · 01/01/2017 10:41

Well, I disagree!

OP, are you planning to pass these thoughts on to your SAIL or just interested?

Report
Skang · 01/01/2017 10:41

SIL.

I like it, it's pretty and underused.

I think it's a very 70s/early 80s name? It has a nice meaning.

Amanda is a pretty name with a beautiful meaning. I would say it was at it's most popular in the late 60s so maybe it is due a comeback.
I'm not mad about Mandy, but an Amanda I know is just Amanda (often pronounced 'manda').

Terrible name.

Report
HamletsSister · 01/01/2017 13:14

It is my name. But I have always had it shortened to Mandy which I like but can sound a bit crap in some accents (cockney, American). I wish I had been an Amanda but my parents gave us all names that shortened.
And my middle name is not Jane, but does rhyme with Jane (and you will never guess as it is not a real name but came from a book).

I know of only 1 other - my age, born late 60s.

I have a Miranda and people often mishear or misspell her name, thinking it's Amanda. I'm obviously keener on the former but Amanda is nice and quite uncommon these days.

It makes me think of the Amanda Hugankiss joke in the Simpsons.

Better than the current trend of names though.

DD1 is Amanda, she's 18. It wasn't my choice so I made bloody sure I named the next DD the moment she was born.

On the plus side she was always the only Amanda in school and she likes to be unique.
