Jace or Jase

We are considering Jace or Jase for DS1s middle name (he's not here yet!).

Which spelling do you prefer? Also any similar suggestions? The first name we have in mind is quite traditional so I wanted to avoid something like James as a middle name, but like the idea of the middle name starting with a J (flows quite well with first name idea plus surname).

I much prefer Jace - but I would definitely assume you were a Mortal Instruments fan if that bothers you. I used to know a Dax which has a similar feel to me.

@Sadik thanks for the heads up on that - hadn't yet googled it. I've never heard of mortal instruments but just looked it up. Jace is a goodie right?! And there I was thinking we'd gone for something a bit different

I don't recognise either of those as names that I "know", but I am of the opinion that with middle names you can do whatever you please.

@JoinOurClub ooh I like Jax! We had considered Jack as a first name so I like that for a middle name alternative. Will add to the possibles list

@Sadik - romantic lead I'll take that!

@Trills - I think a bit more popular in America. However they are in the baby name book we got and we wanted something a bit more unusual (not brave enough to make it first name, hence going with something more traditional so it lasts as trends change)

It sounds like an abbreviation of Jason (as in "here's our Jase") so to me wouldn't be great with a more traditional name - but my dcs have middle names I like, no one ever hears them really so go with what you like.

Jase - definitely an abbreviation for Jason am married to a Jason known as Jase. Have never heard of Jace (or Jase) as a name in its own right.

My firzt thought was being short for Jason too.
I really don't like it, but, as others say, you rately know anyone's middle name so, I'm of the 'could be worse' train of thought.

I would pronounce Jace to rhyme with ace, base, lace.

Jase would be like haze, days, neighs.

The jacks (jax) is the loo in Ireland..

Yes it is an abbreviation for Jason that has now become used as a name itself (like Jamie for James I think)

@BackforGood "it could be worse" is exactly what I think my dad and DH's Mum will say but we are pretty sure they'll love the first name

@mathanxiety think I'll stick with Jace being associated with a romantic lead over Jax as a toilet abbreviation then!

To me, Jace feels like a standalone name whereas Jase is short for Jason
