I was never the person to think about having children so never thought about names. I'm now pregnant with my first (sex Unknown) and wondering how on earth people come up with them?
I'm English and my partner Cape Verdean/Portuguese. I was thinking something a little different maybe Portuguese origin but not OTT. To me a name has to be name. I'm also open to English names, quite traditional but not the standard Thomas, Rachel etc.
If anyone has any ideas please help!!

Portuguese names are easy as long as you avoid any starting with R or H as they will be different. Avoid English names with w as it's almost always v. So Edward for example is Edvard and in some acents Edgvard. Also names like Alison which is a boys name or Gemma which means egg yolk are best avoided. Or boys names that end in a. In my family we chose names that didn't change between the two languages.
Here's some suggestions of Portuguese names
