I love the name for DD2 but DH isn't quite sold on it. Opinions?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen Mon 19-Dec-16 16:32:06

I don't like it personally but then it's not my baby.

FourToTheFloor Mon 19-Dec-16 16:34:06

Dh wanted it for dd1 and dd2 but it is too close to liar for me.

MarjorySunshineDust Mon 19-Dec-16 16:35:30

DD1 has quite an unusual name, it's strong and not too girly so I would like something similar.

Wolfiefan Mon 19-Dec-16 16:37:37

I encountered the name in P Pullmans Northern Lights. Loved the character and the name.

PeteSwotatoes Mon 19-Dec-16 16:43:14

It makes me think of the word "sly".

RedLemonade Mon 19-Dec-16 16:44:31

Love it because of Northern Lights but it does sound a bit too much like "Liar" to pass the schoolyard test I'd say!

Maracattack Mon 19-Dec-16 16:46:07

I know a lovely 9-year-old with this name so I'm all for it! Neither her (as far as I've been told) nor her Mum have any regrets.

I think it's good to pick something that has meaning to both of you - that way what others think doesn't matter.

BayaGoji Mon 19-Dec-16 16:48:28

I thought it said Lycra at first.

We had mixed comments about our name for dd1 so not too worried about negative comments, just curious what other people think! I did wonder if it was too similar to liar.
Finding it so hard to agree! DH prefers Luna but I just think Lunatic and it feels a bit faddy, there's several around here.

On the off chance you're in Ireland and don't mind PITA spellings there's "Luisne" (pron Lishna).

It means a glow or a blush and was used to describe "the first blush of light before dawn breaks" in manuscripts of old. So beautiful.

GoofyTheHero Mon 19-Dec-16 17:00:56

I like it, I know 4 under 3!

Sugarpiehoneyeye Mon 19-Dec-16 18:25:12

I love Lyra, but not Luna.

10Betty10 Mon 19-Dec-16 18:25:13

I was convinced we were going to go with Lyra. (I loved the His Dark Materials books when young). However, the more I said it the more I thought of Lycra and Liar. I think it is one of those names that is theoretically lovely but in practice loses its shine very quick.

SausageSoda Mon 19-Dec-16 18:28:54

I don't like it. I always see Lycra when it's written down and have to do a double check. I don't like the way the name sounds either.

eurochick Mon 19-Dec-16 18:40:18

I like it. I also really like Lara.

1horatio Mon 19-Dec-16 18:42:22

I really like Lyra.

I also like Lydia, it I think I actually prefer Lyra. It's really lovely.

YouMeanYouForgotCranberriesToo Mon 19-Dec-16 18:43:20

I love it!

MarjorySunshineDust Mon 19-Dec-16 19:49:10

DD1 is called Astrid, I love it and we knew all along that is what she would be called. This time it's really tricky and I feel like I've looked at so many names that nothing seems right! Plus my line of work has ruined quite a lot of names for me.

I like Lydia. Seem to be drawn to L names this time for some reason!

MrsChrisPratt Mon 19-Dec-16 19:52:55

I love your choice in names, Astrid and Lyra are both lovely

MrsChrisPratt Mon 19-Dec-16 19:53:34

If you like L names, what about Lana?

1horatio Mon 19-Dec-16 19:53:45

Astrid and Lyra are both gorgeous!

GoofyTheHero Mon 19-Dec-16 19:57:30

Prefer Lana to Luna. Although Lana means 'wool' to me!
