Baby names

Is this a stupid reason to not name DS2 Thomas?

...because 3yo DS1 is obsessed with Thomas the bloody tank engine?

In all other respects I love the name but I worry it's going to either confuse the hell out of DS1 or that he'll resent the new baby 'stealing' the name.

Thomas is lovely. All children go through phases. It will be Peppa Pig next.

Yes, the TTTE phase will pass. You might refer to DS2 as Baby Tommy or something anyway for the first year, so DS1 won't connect it, and then by the time, you're calling DS2 Thomas, DS1 will be on to Spiderman or something.

Yes that's ridiculous - just go with it

Thomas, Tom, great names. Don't let the little engine spoil it for you!

Definitely ridiculous. The phase will be pass.

Ridiculous. He'll grow out of thomas the tank engine, and you may have baby name regret if you don't use it.

Clear consensus then - now I just need to convince DH on the name! Grin

I can't overemphasis the level of obsession with the tank engine - it's practically all he talks about - but yes it does seem absurd to dismiss a name that will last a lifetime over a toddler phase. Calling the baby Tommy at first is a good idea though.

My boy loved Thomas too. If I'd asked him what to call a new baby he'd have probably said Thomas, or Percy, or possibly Diesel 10.
He's 10 now and well out of the other side. I think your DS will love it if you call your new baby Thomas.

Thomas is a great name! Many kids like the tank engine, I don't think that would be bad.

It's one of my favourite names. I wish I could use it (I can't, it's DF's name and he hates naming children after relatives.)
