I'm not pregnant but DH and I decided that we definitely want a 2nd child.

And seeing as I can't go to bed yet (DD and DH are both asleep already😊) And have to wait for a phone call (why are there offices in different time zones...?).

So, yeah. What do you think? Do these make you think of anything nasty? It would be really great (also as a distraction from wanting to fall asleep) if some of you could spare the time to 'indulge' (?) me in this fantasy, basically to let me dream a bit (gosh darn it. I hope I'll still be awake enough to speak English on the phone...)

Anton
Clement
Ignatius
Cedric

Kira
Thomasina
Charlotte/nn Charlie
Josephine

Oh.... somebody answered :)

And seeing as I still haven't gotten my call... thanks!! ;)

Do you really like Kira? When I asked for DD some seemed to suggest that it may have some... negative connotations in the U.K. (K names in general, apparently. But I love the name we ultimately went with and have no name regret, so it's all good)

I also love Clement. And for Josephine the nickname Jo is so cute :)!

I like Kira, I know one as well. Also like Josephine and Thomasina.

I like Ignatius of your boy choices. Very bold.

Refluxsux · 16/12/2016 22:02

I like Ignatius, Charlotte and Josephine.

How about Vaughn for a boy?

Report
1horatio · 16/12/2016 22:07

Ohh,.. somebody likes Kira ;)

I'm thrilled by the positive response to Ignatius. It wasn't really a serious contender last time but it just got stuck in the back of my head. And I just love it 😅

How would you pronounce Vaughn? Is that... my guess would be Irish but I may be wayyy off...

Oh... welsh. I couldn't pronounce that and neither DH or I are Welsh. But thank you so much for commenting.

I just realised that I also like Ronald.

Vaughn is certainly not Irish.

Is Kira KEYE--ra, or an anglicisation of the Irish Ciara? I like Ignatius - I know a cool eight year old Iggy - but not keen on the girls' names.

I like Anton, Charlotte and Josephine. Josie is a nice NN.

1horatio · 16/12/2016 22:25

Just looked it up, it's apparently Welsh? But I couldn't pronounce that. And my family couldn't either (certain English names are already difficult for my mother and my grandmother).

Kira would be the feminine form of Cyrus, it's sometimes spelled Kyra. And the the pronunciation is basically Keeruh :)

I prefer Ciara to Kira.
I like Josie.
I like Anton.

Oh gosh, Josie... I didn't think of that. Sorry, I really don't like Josie 🙈 Would Josie be a common nickname? I thought Jo would be more obvious. Oops... Blush

I like Anton a lot and I've always loved Charlotte (not Charlie though). Not keen on the rest.

Ciara is nice, but it's just not the same name as Kira/Kyra. Different origin, language, meaning...

Cedric, Josephine and Clement are on my names shortlist!

I like all of the names mentioned though.

Oh... and Gemma is also great (I'm going through nameberry, the similar name section).

And oh gosh, please people. Caaall! Pick up the phone, lazy buggers (well, they're not lazy, they will call as soon as the meeting is over. That's what I get for thinking about working for the firm of one of my uncle's. Gah!)

Charlotte and Charlie are very overused and have been for 20 years plus now. I like all your other suggestions.

Report
1horatio · 16/12/2016 22:47

So...
Ignatius, Anton, Cedric, Clement or Ronald. Anton seems to be well liked :)
Gemma, Josephine, Charlotte, Thomasina or Kira.

I'm surprised by the many positive responses. And that Gemma has become so uncommon. There are hardly any little Gemmas to be found, according to namesdarkgreener...

Thomasina and Clement are my favourites.

Report
1horatio · 16/12/2016 22:50

I like that Thomasina is so bold.

Just the nickname... 'Tommy'. That's one of my father's.

Amd he dislikes the tradition of naming children after relatives.

But I just really like the name 😂

Really like Clement and Anton. And Josephine, but I like that partly because I think nn Josie is lovely.

Tamsin is a Cornish diminutive of Thomasina.

SorenaJ · 17/12/2016 08:06

I like all of your names (Ignatius is lovely), except Kira. It does have negative associations for me, sorry.

I don't like your boys names at all but Anton is best. I like Charlotte from your girls list.

I think Anton is very 'inoffensive', if that makes sense. A name like Ignatius would provoke stronger reactions, I think.

I really like that Gemma has become so unpopular. I truly love that name :)

Tam sin is cute but just not as beautiful as Thomasina, imo. But I cringe when I think of Tammy. I don't like the nickname Josie but tbh, Tammy is so... not sure what the English word is, sorry.
