We have a claudia. Name was very well recieved by family and friends- or they are just polite!
We have cut down our list for second daughter to:
Poppy
Clementine
Roxanne
Phoebe
Emily

Any thoughts on these please?
Roxanne seems controversial/ unpopular from what i gather.
Is claudia ( nickname claudie ) and clemmie too similar that its stupid? Poppy i find a bit ..plain.
My favorites are phoebe and emily but husband dont agree

I like Roxanne, there's one (spelt Roxane) in my extended family, I find it beautiful and with a lovely meaning (dawn, daybreak).

I find Poppy a bit twee and don't much like either the sound or the look of Phoebe (bit harsh).

Yes I think Claudie and Clemmie is a bit too matchy.

How about Emmeline which sounds a bit like Emily and a bit like Clementine?

Or, along the lines of Roxanne: Roseanne, Rosalie, Rosalind.

Phoebe. I love it and it goes best with Claudia I reckon- classic, elegant, slightly unusual.

I think Phoebe is the best from your list.

I also think the following 'go': Margot, Eloise,

Phoebe in my favourite

Like Lydia with Claudia

Phoebe from your list.

How about Alexa?

KlingybunFistelvase Wed 23-Nov-16 20:41:30

Phoebe and Emily are lovely! Also like pp suggestion of emmeline.

daisydalrymple Wed 23-Nov-16 20:51:53

I think phoebe goes well. I thought of Naomi and Leona when I saw the thread title.

Sugarpiehoneyeye Wed 23-Nov-16 21:03:00

Roxanne, I have one.
Claudia and Roxie, just lovely, and different.

LestatVonGaribaldi Wed 23-Nov-16 21:06:57

I love Roxanne and Phoebe. Yes, clemmie is too much with Claudia and Poppy and Emily are quite dull imo.

What about Saskia or Anya?

I like phoebe and Emily. For some reason I feel like Abigail goes

Poppy - Lovely, but very popular.

Clementine - Too matchy with Claudia, plus I don't like Clemmie.

Roxanne - Awful. That god awful song by The Police, which is about prostitutes.

Phoebe - Lovely.

Emily - My favourite. A classic, will never date or fall out of favour.

I was going to suggest Saskia but Lestat beat me to it.

I also think these names would go with Claudia:
Juliet
Helena
Alice
Tamsin
Rowena
Jemima
Keziah
Matilda

I think Poppy and Emily are indeed dull, and Poppy is very lightweight (yy to 'twee') beside the classic Claudia. Phoebe is nice and also hearkens back to Latin and Greek but I think the ee ending makes it a bit insipid beside Claudia.

I like Clementine and Roxanne with Claudia. I wouldn't be bothered by the C initial in both names, and Clem or Clemmie wouldn't sound too much to me. Roxanne is a bit more Harley Davidson than Claudia but it has the same solidity. I would spell it with Roxane, with one N.

mathanxiety Thu 24-Nov-16 08:16:39

x-post with Yika wrt 'Roxane'.

oleoleoleole Thu 24-Nov-16 08:24:40

Absolute love Clementine (Clemmie) and think they both go well together. I don't think Roxanne fits in.

Sugarpiehoneyeye Thu 24-Nov-16 08:32:01

Saskia is a good match.

MollyHuaCha Thu 24-Nov-16 08:44:02

Phoebe is lovely. But she wd have to get used to spelling it out for people. I like Saskia too.

GoasipHound Thu 24-Nov-16 10:19:12

I love roxanne
Don't understand the mumsnet issue with it
So what some cheesy 80s song your daughter will probably never hear it! And lots of names have cheesy songs from the past with them

It's an unusual feisty name I think it's great and also Roxanna

DamePlata Fri 25-Nov-16 19:41:12

Phoebe or Emily.

Dont like the other two as much as Claudia. One is another c name and Poppy sounds like it was chosen by people with a different naming style.

All so subjective of course but id be unsurprised if the parents of a claudia chose Marianne, Eleanor, Susannah, Lydia, Annabel, Juliet. That kind of name goes more with Claudia imo

DamePlata Fri 25-Nov-16 19:43:25

Louisa
Naomi

(2 more that popped into my head)

tarheelbaby Fri 25-Nov-16 19:52:30

I love Claudia. I had cousins: Claudia & Cynthia (another name for goddess Diana) and I thought their names were just the coolest.

To continue the Classical direction, you could go with Roxanne (wife of Alexander the Great) or Phoebe (feminine form of Apollo, meaning shining light). You could also go with Julia (as in Caesar, best known Roman) or Lydia (Greek) or Helen/a - the most beautiful woman.

Thatwaslulu Fri 25-Nov-16 20:10:42

I don't think Emily or any other name starting with a vowel - too much of a mouthful with the "a" sound at the end of Claudia. Phoebe goes well, or maybe something like Louise or Marianne?

Thatwaslulu Fri 25-Nov-16 20:11:50

Misread the OP. I thought middle name...sorry. Got distracted as I was reading.

Still think Phoebe is the best from your list.
