What do you all think of the name Dasha (for a girl)?

We wanted to use it for DD1 but thought it wasn't usable enough in non-Russian culture. It's traditionally a nickname for Darya/Daria but we don't like the full name and don't think Dasha from Daria would come naturally for people where we live.

But we're looking at using it this time 'round. Just not sure if it is unusable. Or just horrible and we're blinded? grin

StealthPolarBear Tue 22-Nov-16 20:20:20

Don't dislike it though. Maybe a bit trashy- sorry! Reminiscent of names like "Mercedes".

stiffstink Tue 22-Nov-16 20:22:36

My automatic reaction was "and Dancer."

Pluto30 Tue 22-Nov-16 20:23:21

I hadn't even considered the reindeer thing blush

Sorry that was rude. Yes first thought is reindeer.

Soubriquet Tue 22-Nov-16 20:24:52

Yeah I thought reindeer too

But it's nice

justdontevenfuckingstart Tue 22-Nov-16 20:26:35

Wasn't there a Dacha on Strictly?

KlingybunFistelvase Tue 22-Nov-16 20:26:57

I like it!

There's a Dasha in DD's class, but mum is Russian.

Pluto30 Tue 22-Nov-16 20:27:56

just I haven't seen Strictly (know of it though). I'm not in the UK. smile

raviolidreaming Tue 22-Nov-16 20:28:33

I assumed it was reindeer-inspired for a Christmas baby, but I do like it!

Sweets101 Tue 22-Nov-16 20:32:00

I immediately thought "Dancer, Comet, Vixen"

Sweets101 Tue 22-Nov-16 20:33:05

Oh no I got it wrong! It's Prancer and Vixen.

ElizaSchuyler Tue 22-Nov-16 20:33:36

Dd has a friend called Daria who is known as Dasha. She is Russian though.

Imsickofnamechanging Tue 22-Nov-16 20:34:41

Forget about the reindeer whatever. There's a girl is ds's class called Dasha. It's a lovely name and no one thinks about reindeers.

Soubriquet Tue 22-Nov-16 20:35:31

Donner, dasher, prancer dancer, vixen, blitzen, comet, Cupid and Rudolph grin

CoffeeChocolateWine Tue 22-Nov-16 20:36:11

I know a Dasha (nickname for Daria) and I've always thought it was a lovely name. I can safely say I never ever thought of the reindeer thing!

OliviaBensonOnAGoodDay Tue 22-Nov-16 20:40:37

It's on our list. But DP is from the former Soviet Union, so not Russian but Russian speaking.

justdontevenfuckingstart Tue 22-Nov-16 20:48:58

Pluto was Dasha. Very nice.

user1479835256 Tue 22-Nov-16 22:27:57

Thought you were going to say it was for a dog. Sorry.

There is Dechen

Or Tasha?

SeveredPixieBits Tue 22-Nov-16 22:33:50

I thought it was a reindeer inspired Christmas name too. Oops.

Pemba Tue 22-Nov-16 22:37:56

It's a Russian thing I think. There's also Masha and Sasha etc. Maybe we should be a bit more open-minded about names from different cultures?
