So what I thought was going to be DS2 has turned into Dd1! Being utterly convinced of having a boy prior to my scan today I has my boys names pretty sorted .
I have always loved the name Perdita since I read The winters tale many moons ago , surprisingly DH is on board and likes it too which for a man who can only come up with "Dave" as a name for his son is shocking to say the least .
I have reservations though , we are not posh like seriously not , very normal 2 working parents small semi in a fairly crap area ( think local Lidl rather than Waitrose) for some reason I think of Perdita as a posh girls name?
Other names I have mulled over are Erin , Eleanor and Matilda which all seem a safer choice but I'm 40 this is my last baby for sure and I wonder will I regret not sticking to my guns saying stuff what anyone thinks that's her name !

Isn't that the name of Anita's dog in 101 Dalmatians.
Erin's by far the nicest

I love Perdita, but doesn't it mean something like 'the lost one'?

(caveat, this is a vague thought based on the character Perdita in Jilly Cooper's 'Polo'!)

It's Latin for lost which you may wish to bear in mind. It does sound pretty and it's unusual though.

I taugt a 7y Perdita a couple of years ago. I didn't see it as a 'posh girl's name.' But we have a huge range of different name types where I teach so used to less common ones, and non English ones, being used.

I like it but isnt it the name of the mother dog in 101 dalmations?

I love it and know one who is gorgeous and lovely. She goes by Perdie most of the time. My only bug bear is that I am never sure if it should be pronounced 'perd-i-ta or per-dee-ta'

It does have 'posh' connotations but I am a council estate girl who named her DD Camilla so I can't talk!!

I knew a Perdita. We all called her Perdy which is a lovely nickname.

I love it.
Makes me think of 101 Dalmations, which is a good think IMO

Don't talk yourself out of using it by telling yourself that your posh credentials aren't quite tip top! That's such a British preoccupation.

I'd be charmed to meet a little Perdita.

Autocorrect changes it to perdition, a state of eternal damnation for the sinful. It also makes me think of lost, perdu is French for lost.

I love it because of the Winters Tale association but I'm afraid more people are familiar with the spotty dog association which would put me off using it.

It is beautiful, though.

Sorry but I think it is dreadful, it means lost woman.

I may be prejudiced because I know one and she is basically awful, but still, the meaning alone is terrible.

Dalmatians was my first thought.

If you have a boy next you have to call him Pongo.

I love it. If you love it too, you'll always regret not using it!

I don't like the meaning, and also picture a Dalmatian dog when I hear it... It also reminds me of a really bad "la perdita" tattoo my friend got when we were teenagers, which she then had to have covered up, but that's not really relevant to anyone else I suppose!

Yes, I like it OP.

It sounds very pretty but it's meaning is so sad, I couldn't use it.
