It's for a boy - I don't look at it as a girls name, but I know some do, so can we not have it with our surname?

FizzBombBathTime Fri 18-Nov-16 17:12:57

I wouldn't

Soubriquet Fri 18-Nov-16 17:14:02

So your surname is Rose and his first name is James?

Nothing wrong with that..unless I'm missing something

SaltyMyDear Fri 18-Nov-16 17:14:05

Is Rose the middle name or the surname?

katiegg Fri 18-Nov-16 17:14:35

I'm a bit confused, is Rose your surname?

orangepudding Fri 18-Nov-16 17:14:41

If Rose is your surname yes it's fine.

NavyandWhite Fri 18-Nov-16 17:15:37

What's your surname?

CandleWaxxy Fri 18-Nov-16 17:16:25

Sorry, surname is Rose

NavyandWhite Fri 18-Nov-16 17:16:26

Rose is the surname? Why wouldn't you be able to have James then?

CandleWaxxy Fri 18-Nov-16 17:16:43

Well, some people view James as unisex

NavyandWhite Fri 18-Nov-16 17:17:03

Yes of course you can have James. I'm confused confused

treblejeff Fri 18-Nov-16 17:17:14

What people

Soubriquet Fri 18-Nov-16 17:18:33

James is a boys name

Though I'm guessing your thinking of the Iris James thread aren't you?

As a middle name it didn't really matter

Call your baby James. It's fine

CandleWaxxy Fri 18-Nov-16 17:19:23

Some people on here... James was also used in the 'favourite unisex names' thread. It just worried me a bit

katiegg Fri 18-Nov-16 17:20:34

If Rose is the surname then of course you can name him James Rose. We have quite a feminine surname too but nothing you can really do about that.

For what it's worth, I don't think of James as unisex in the slightest, definitely a masculine name in my opinion (and experience - never met a female James).

Soubriquet Fri 18-Nov-16 17:20:36

Mn is a parrellel universe where everyone shops in boden and waitrose and eats "naice" ham

In the real world no one gives a shit where you shop or eat

James is perfectly fine for a boy

CancellyMcChequeface Fri 18-Nov-16 17:21:26

James is a classic boys' name. Nothing wrong with James Rose at all.

treblejeff Fri 18-Nov-16 17:21:27

I've never met a girl called James confused as opposed to the hundreds of male Jameses I've known

NavyandWhite Fri 18-Nov-16 17:21:33

In the real world James is only a boys name.

SaltyMyDear Fri 18-Nov-16 17:22:02

James is a boys name. Certainly not unisex despite what some celebs think.

Kidnapped Fri 18-Nov-16 17:22:52

Rose is just a normal surname. Justin Rose the golfer, Danny Rose the footballer.

And James is not commonly used for girls. At all.

Manumission Fri 18-Nov-16 17:22:54

I know a James Rose very well. He's never mentioned ever having any negative reaction of any sort.

raisedbyguineapigs Fri 18-Nov-16 17:24:23

Ryan Reynolds and Blake Livelys daughter is James. That might be why people think it's unisex. They are all wrong. It's a boys namegrin

FizzBombBathTime Fri 18-Nov-16 17:25:03

Sorry op I thought rose was going to be a middle name

Yes James rose is a fine name (I have a James myself 🙂)

Oliversmumsarmy Fri 18-Nov-16 17:26:41

Why would you call a girl Jim
