I'm leaning towards Stephen, as there's Stephanie. Which do you prefer Steven or Stephen?

dementedpixie Thu 17-Nov-16 19:41:51

Stephen doesn't look right to me as my brother is a Steven

OdinsLoveChild Thu 17-Nov-16 19:45:07

I prefer the Stephen spelling. smile It's not a name I would use now though, it sounds very 80's retro to me.

im leaning towards Stephen, as there's Stephanie can you explain that? I don't quite get what you mean confused

Personally I would always go with Steven over Stephen from a bullying point of view - heard it a hundred times over being a 70's baby 'step-hen'

penelopemay Thu 17-Nov-16 19:48:54

Well, Stephen and Stephanie are the male and female equivalent, so it seems right

dementedpixie Thu 17-Nov-16 19:50:27

How are you pronouncing it? I would pronounce both spellings the same or are you saying it the way Stephanie starts. I still prefer Steven

Thatwaslulu Thu 17-Nov-16 19:50:33

Stephen. I think the "v" spelling doesn't look quite right, although I know quite a few Stevens.

Sophronia Thu 17-Nov-16 19:54:24

Stephen, although I like both

Meadows76 Thu 17-Nov-16 19:55:21

Well, Stephen and Stephanie are the male and female equivalent, so it seems right what seems right? I don't see what relevance Stephanie has?

AuntieStella Thu 17-Nov-16 19:55:54

I prefer Stephen.

Or you could doge the issue completely and have a Stefan?

I agree, Stephen and Stephanie are two different names, but it's not hard to see the similarities grin
I say Steven, because then you can have Stevie as a nickname.

All the Stevens I know are called Steve so I'd say Steven!

buttercup54321 Thu 17-Nov-16 20:13:23

Steven. Not Step Hen.

penelopemay Thu 17-Nov-16 20:17:15

The relevance is, Stephanie is the female version of Stephen

Chinlo Thu 17-Nov-16 20:17:31

Steven, because I can't understand ph as a logical way of spelling a -v- sound.

Allalonenow Thu 17-Nov-16 20:18:09

Stephen, (though I like Steve as a nn).

dementedpixie Thu 17-Nov-16 20:19:05

Why is it relevant though?

DramaAlpaca Thu 17-Nov-16 20:19:51

I like both, but I think if I was using the name I'd go for Stephen.

Sleeperandthespindle Thu 17-Nov-16 20:20:05

Steven. Love it. My 4 year old DS has a 70s name and it's great!

katiegg Thu 17-Nov-16 20:21:17

Stephen, definitely. Steven looks wrong.

Meadows76 Thu 17-Nov-16 20:22:12

The relevance is, Stephanie is the female version of Stephen

WHY is that relevant?

penelopemay Thu 17-Nov-16 20:23:03

Why does it matter why I think it's relevant? It just seems right to use that one

Lilacpink40 Thu 17-Nov-16 20:23:43

Ph, but v for nn.
