I really wouldn't say that. No.

These are just the names we like.

I like Cressida and Iris. I don't like Serana. Appoline and Celestine sound a bit try hard to me. Then again I've only known one Cressida (twin of a Miranda) so maybe that's a bit try hard too.

What about Portia or Imogen if you like those kinds of names.

In order of preference:

Serena
Cressida
Iris
Celestina (though prefer Celestine)
Apolline

one of my best friends is called Cressida. Maybe that's why I like it.
I know a Portia. She's simply horrible...

Olenna: thank you :)

These aren't my style of names AT ALL, so I really don't like any of them, but the better two of the bunch, in my opinion, are Serena and Iris.

Names seem to be like wedding dresses. There are so many different styles, tastes etc. Finding a name is like wedding dress shopping (imo). Complicated but also rather exciting...

Thank you for commenting :)!

Iris
Apolline
Celestina
Cressida
Serena

I like them all, though they are not in my usual naming style.
Celestina reminds me of Celestina Warbeck in Harry Potter and I would be a proud Potter geek having a child named after an extremely minor and incidental character Grin

I like them a lot except for celestina and apolline. Especially not apolline. My favourites are Serena and Cressida.

Aside from Appoline. They're all dreadful.

Celestina, this is the best, I like the meaning and the sound.

Appoline, seems like trying to make a masculine name feminine. I don't think you can feminise such a masculine name!

Cressida, to me sounds fussy and prim.

Serena seems kind of dated and boring.

Iris I dislike, the sound is too hard and the name is geriatric.

Serena is lovely. The rest aren't to my taste. Iris is popular these days and I can imagine the appeal but link it in my mind to a very uptight woman I knew for years, so can't find it appealing.

Molly Weasley is the one that likes Celestina Warbeck, right? Grin

It isn't meant to be a Harry Potter tribute, tbh. I think it sounds lovely, the meaning is nice, it isn't too common but still a 'real' name. And I know a really lovely Celestine.

I also like Serena (a lot) and Iris (not as much).

Know a Cressida that I don't like much so may be biased.

Iris and Serena are the least ridiculous.

I like Iris and Serena.

The others are a bit frilly for my taste.

I really like Serena OP. Cressida I don't mind.

However really not keen on the rest.

I don't think they're ridiculous. But some of them are probably marmite names, yes. Thank you for commenting :)

Serena is stunning and was on my list.
Cressida- nice name.
Iris- don't like
Celestina- over complicated version of Celeste. Celestine sounds a bit masculine.
Appoline- not keen at all. Is it Apple-leen or line?

I like your list of Classically-influenced names but many on MN will consider them too try hard, as they would my kids' names too. Wink But where we live they fit in well.

Specifically on your list:

Iris I love. It's not as usual as your others though, I know several under 3.

Appoline is the most unusual of your list - I've never heard of one. I'd personally rule it out on apple-y nickname grounds.

I know a few Cressidas of a mixture of ages and the problem is always nicknames. They all seem to sometimes get Cressie, and dislike it. If you don't mind it then go for it.

I prefer Celestine or Celeste to Celestina. The -tina almost overwhelms the prettier first two syllables.

Serena I'm biased against from knowing a not very nice one. But objectively it's fine.

I wonder if you might also like Seraphina, Delphine or Delphie, Athena or Daphne.

Iris or Cressida. Both classy names.

I'm not keen on Serena, to me it's a bit of a cheerleader type of name.

The other two are nice but more out there and a bit o.t.t.
