Baby is half Persian and DP likes Cyrus for a boy. Opinions pls? Does it work in the UK?

Wasn't Cyrus the virus a very unpleasant fictional serial killer? Can't remember the film.

Miley Cyrus

Persian emperor

Don't like it, don't think it works.

Darius perhaps.

Billy Ray?

Reza? Ramin? Cyrus is OK, but makes me think Billy Ray. To me it sounds more American than Persian.

Is the surname traditional though? If you are living here/bringing him up here I'd not go the full Monty with both Persian first and surnames.

Sam/Sami
Davood (David)
Edris
Javid
Aryan

Cyrus is a great name! Cool, easy to say/spell and not overused.

Si-rus of sirr-rooz? Farsi isn't all that easy to wrap your mouth around!

Makes me think of Cyrus as in Con Air (I think that is who RiverTam was referring to) or Cyrus as in Billy Ray. Sorry!

I like it. I know two - one 40 something, no Persian background, one early 30s, Persian background.

Love it. Knew one in my teens, worked really well. Persian notations to me!

Cyrus just makes me think of Miley, people would probably think you're a fan, which is no problem if you are I suppose!

Aryan has bad connotations - don't use that!

Billy Ray and Miley.

Agree that Aryan has seriously bad connotations. Avoid like the plague.

Yea, agree about Aryan, I know that in plenty of countries it's a perfectly acceptable name, but unfortunately given still-recent European history, I think it's a very bad idea. Which is a pity, as its a nice name.

I rather like Silas. My eccentric grandmother had a huge tabby called that and I've always had a soft spot for the name.

Will his surname be Iranian?

That's on our shortlist too! Obviously I like it Grin

We have a Persian surname too but I think "Cy" or "Rus" work well as NN's if he wants to Anglicise.

"Arya" is the Persian name I believe (rather than Aryan). We considered this too but the connotations (and the fact that lots of our friends have used "Aria" for a girl) put us off.
