NC because nobody irl knows I'm pregnant yet.

I love hippy and unusual names, but they need to work beyond childhood too.

I have a few that I love like ziggy and cobain and bluebell and chakra but I couldn't use them irl.

Please help.

I love some of these.

Saffron, Bowie, Moss, Meadow and Harvest are lovely.

Would they work for an adult too?

adults today might judge on a name but your child will grow up with people knowing them personally. The more unique names in the world the more normal for todays kids growing up. When they reach adulthood they will be a lot less likely to see a name and judge.

Please don't do this to your child.

It doesn't matter whether YOU like "hippyish and out there names"; most people (a) don't and (b) think it is a sign that the parents are idiots with no judgment.

Your child has to live with their name for life. Names like this prove a handicap in terms of life development and career prospects - unless they are going into the arts, which lets face it, very few people really succeed in. Your child will be bullied and teased and judged at first impression for the rest of their life. Why would you do that?

Would there ever be a Prime Minister called Bluebell or Meadow? Er... no.

The answer to that is give them a more conventional middle name. But actually, there was a very famous judge in the 1930s called Christmas Humphreys. He was also a Buddhist.

but your child will grow up with people knowing them personally.

You have to factor in things like job interview and CV sifts - and all the other interactions in society that matter and are based on first impressions and not knowing someone personally; how people treat someone on a first impression (which includes what their name is); school bullying and so on.

It's a cruel and irresponsible thing to do to a child. Ask me how I know.

Halfa what a nasty thing to say. I really hope the next generation aren't as judgy as you.
Their hasn't been a pm called bluebell yet because a) it's a very rare name and b) it's a girls name and we've only ever had to female pms.

More people are giving their babies unusual names...so when they are older it will almost be the norm!

Ignore people who think conventional is better and do what suits your family!

I don't think uou can call a kid Jezebel,,,it has other meanings.,😂

It's not just school you need to think about, it's also adult hood as uou rightly allude to, a lot of kids with out there names grow up and change them by deed poll, or revert to a middle name due to embarrassment, You also want to think about what they may wish to be when they grow up. Something that can't be guessed, so side with caution.

I think there is a fine line between an unusual name and something as an adult uou might not wish to write on your cv.....and make uou want to throttle uour parents for lumbering uou with it...

Help I know an adult Moss. He's a doctor with a lot of gravitas, so I think it can work.

halfa that's the point. More kids grow up with unique names they learn not to judge when they read cvs etc.

Don't be silly Halfa; besides there are 100s of names where posh meets hippy, if that's a concern.

I particularly like Briar and India.
