Is this name usable? Nice? Horrid? Any comments welcome. grin

The Porsche thing likely wouldn't be an issue where I live, as Porsche is generally pronounced "porsh", one syllable (unless the person is a car enthusiast).

I like it a lot!

Would there be a middle name?

OnceMoreIntoTheBleach Wed 02-Nov-16 20:25:40

Not overly keen myself but nowt wrong with it. What would it get shortened to though?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen Wed 02-Nov-16 20:28:24

I don't like it at all. It's an odd name IMO.

msrisotto Wed 02-Nov-16 20:28:24

I love it

Awwlookatmybabyspider Wed 02-Nov-16 20:30:13

I think it's gorgeous

DearMrDilkington Wed 02-Nov-16 20:30:45

I really like it. What middle name were you thinking of using?

MikeUnicornMike Wed 02-Nov-16 20:31:15

It's a lovely name. It was on my list of baby names.

LuckySantangelo1 Wed 02-Nov-16 20:34:15

Hmmm. Really don't like it, sorry OP. Affected aspirational poshness is what springs to mind. If you are properly posh then you can probably get away with it!

Jaimx86 Wed 02-Nov-16 20:35:59

Love the link to Shakespeare's character from The Merchant of Venice. I also like Ophelia.

Pluto30 Wed 02-Nov-16 20:36:18

The middle name will probably be Joan as it's a family name. smile

PortiaCastis Wed 02-Nov-16 20:38:49

I cant help but say it's a lovely name

Pluto30 Wed 02-Nov-16 21:04:10

Haha Portia grin

I'm pleasantly surprised by the comments so far! I had worried it would be too posh or aspirational, but the majority of people don't seem to think it's a worry.

Meeep Wed 02-Nov-16 21:06:50

Yes I like it too.

Footle Wed 02-Nov-16 21:11:39

The quality of mercy is not strained, but droppeth as the gentle dew from heaven .. What's not to like ?

MikeUnicornMike Wed 02-Nov-16 21:11:53

I think Joan is also a lovely name. I know an Ophelia. Do think about abbreviations though. Portia might end up being Podge, Joan Joanie, Ophelia Fi etc

ThroughThickAndThin01 Wed 02-Nov-16 21:13:25

I like it, it's a nice name. I know two - a 15 year old and a 2 year old.

soundsystem Wed 02-Nov-16 21:14:16

I love it! Was only out off for DD because of the Porsche thing but as that's not an issue then I'd go for it

Overthehillandroundthebend Wed 02-Nov-16 21:19:19

I have always liked it - DH vetoed it =(

Overthehillandroundthebend Wed 02-Nov-16 21:20:29

Just to add - he only vetoed it because of the car... Without that it's perfect.

Pluto30 Wed 02-Nov-16 21:25:50

We like Ophelia too, but it doesn't go with our last name sad

Very pleased with the Portia reactions!

BarInSpace Wed 02-Nov-16 21:53:37

de Rossi (born Amanda but changed it to Portia at 15).

It's fine.

SorenaJ Thu 03-Nov-16 10:08:19

Portia is a lovely name.

Gardencentregroupie Thu 03-Nov-16 10:10:51

Hmm. I know a Porscha same pronunciation as Portia, the name generally doesn't go down well, and nobody ever knows how to spell it. But if you love it use it.

Pipilangstrumpf Thu 03-Nov-16 10:34:09

Portia is beautiful! Classic and not overused.
