Just that really!

gunting Tue 01-Nov-16 13:09:49

I think it's quite old fashioned but not awful..

mummytobeforbabyno1 Tue 01-Nov-16 13:10:57

I really like it. I do like more old fashioned names and they are all slowly coming back round. Don't hear it often now.

neady Tue 01-Nov-16 13:11:57

I've always loved it but could never use it because our local accent means it would be pronounced as Root - could not inflict that on the child smile

Elllicam Tue 01-Nov-16 13:11:58

I like it smile

ChadSexington Tue 01-Nov-16 13:12:38

Why, I think it's utterly fabulous grin

I was the only one in both my primary and secondary schools. These were in South London by the way, so I was known as Roof. Something to bear in mind perhaps. I didn't like it at all as a kid, but it has grown on me now.

ThomasHardyPerennial Tue 01-Nov-16 13:13:19

It's a lovely name!

BusterGonad Tue 01-Nov-16 13:24:34

I don't love it hate it. It's a bit 'beige'!

Jackie0 Tue 01-Nov-16 13:25:32

I'd think you were religious

brightnearly Tue 01-Nov-16 13:28:00

It looks lovely, it sounds a little bit harsh though.

HarrietVane99 Tue 01-Nov-16 13:32:19

I like it. It's a bit different, without being too 'out there'. It's a serious grown up name, too - passes the Prime Minister test.

I wouldn't think it was religious - no more so than Rachel or Rebecca or Naomi or all the other Biblical names that have been popular.

Soubriquet Tue 01-Nov-16 13:34:00

I like it.

NameChange30 Tue 01-Nov-16 13:36:20

I don't like it even though I have a lovely friend with the name.

French speakers pronounce it "Root" as well, which has probably contributed to putting me off the name, as it's such an ugly pronunciation! It might be the same in other accents and languages too - which could be a consideration if you want a name that travels well.

groovygreenwichgirl Tue 01-Nov-16 13:40:05

I think its lovely. A real classic that won't go out of fashion.

saintava Tue 01-Nov-16 13:42:13

It's my middle name. I like it more now than I did when I was younger. I now use just my first and middle name on Facebook so I see it a fair bit too

Helpisathand13 Tue 01-Nov-16 13:42:20

Think it is a lovely name

SpecialStains Tue 01-Nov-16 13:43:40

It was on my baby name list (I had a boy).

I liked it because it's a solid, biblical name and it's not cutesy (doesn't end in -belle or -ie or -y). Also, it's not too common, but the Ruth's I've know have all been very nice people! It's not dated and I think it has a nice sound to it.

CaoNiMao Tue 01-Nov-16 13:53:54

I've always loved the name Ruth. I know several lovely Ruths.

Nicnac81 Tue 01-Nov-16 13:55:42

I know a couple of Ruth's, it is a lovely old fashioned name ( which I love... my little one is martha)

nicky2512 Tue 01-Nov-16 13:58:26

Love it. It is my dds middle name.

DiegeticMuch Tue 01-Nov-16 14:05:57

Every Ruth I've known has been great, and I like biblical names normally, but this name is on my irrational dislike list. No idea why.

NavyandWhite Tue 01-Nov-16 14:14:07

It's a bit plain if I'm honest. But then I like quite fancy names for a girl. Certainly not terrible though.

Sophronia Tue 01-Nov-16 14:52:59

I think it's lovely, it makes a great middle name too.

TheCompanyOfCats Tue 01-Nov-16 14:56:55

Weirdly, every single Ruth I've ever known has been a butch lesbian. So that's what I associate with it but I appreciate that this is probably just the Ruths that I know grin

A strong classic.
