What's your thoughts on this name? Does it sum up a image if you hear this name?

This is actually my name and all my life I have hated it, always seemed really old fashioned and boring, my friends were Nicole's, Rachel's, Ellie's, Kelly's, Claire's etc.

I'm mid 30's now and it's just dawned on me that actually I may like it... though I keep saying it out loud and it seems strange

I like it. Classic, dignified, but with lots of different ways to shorten it.

Catherine, to me, suggests a serious, grown up type of person. So perhaps you've just grown into it! Cathy is more outgoing and fun loving. So the name can be adapted to suit different personalities and situations.

Just got me thinking is it a name you associate with someone mid thirties? If I hear Tracy for example I think for someone around 40-45 ish

It's just a name I haven't heard for the younger generation

It's my middle name, and I love it. Really wish it was my first name. To me, it's a strong and feminine name.

I think it's a name that doesn't date, whereas Tracy was very popular at that particular time in the 1970s. I wouldn't guess someone's age based on her being called Catherine.

It's my middle name, I've always been meh about it but I agree I don't think it's dated. I know a few young women called Catherine/Katherine.

I'm a Katherine and I love it. It's always felt like quite a classic name to me and I don't think it's particularly associated with a certain generation in the same way names like Tracy/Susan/Mary etc can often be.

Had ds2 been a dd she was going to be Catherine. Mostly due to the fact my great grandmother was Catherine, although I do think it's a lovely, strong, classic name

It's timeless and will still be around when in 100 years time, when the made up, ridiculous horrors that pose as names these days will hopefully be forgotten, never to be repeated

Like it, for personal reasons but I think it is a bit of a dated name. I think ( I haven't checked) it was the most popular girls' name in 1956 and certainly there are lots and lots of Catherines in their 50s and early 60s. However, it's 'evergreen' status means that it'll never disappear. It would be interesting to plot it's popularity against other 'evergreens' .
Has the Duchess of Cambridge had an effect on the generally positive vibe about the name?
