What do you think about Rory? Looking for a name that is not overused but not unheard ofsmile

SidneyPiecrust Tue 11-Oct-16 20:05:04

Boy or gitrl?

HaPPy8 Tue 11-Oct-16 20:05:26

Love it for a boy

CEOD Tue 11-Oct-16 20:05:55

Boy, obviously. I like Rory - good old traditional Scottish name.

AlmaMartyr Tue 11-Oct-16 20:07:53

I like it but prefer it for a boy. Hadn't heard of it as a girls name before The Gilmore Girls but not hugely keen.

bubbblegum Tue 11-Oct-16 20:08:15

Yes for a boy smile

DH parents are Scottish so I bet they will love it when we mention it.

SidneyPiecrust Tue 11-Oct-16 20:09:36

Robert kennedy's last child was a girl, rory.

GruochMacAlpin Tue 11-Oct-16 20:11:34

I think it's lovely. It's pretty common in Scotland, although your spelling isn't typically the one used.

Chelsea26 Tue 11-Oct-16 20:14:49

I have a Rory - he's 5 and the only one in his year. There are 3 in his school but it is catholic so I think it's slightly skewed (and one of them is spelt differently)

He loves his name - go for it!

n0ne Tue 11-Oct-16 20:18:59

Lovely name!

Watchingitall Tue 11-Oct-16 20:25:45

I like it. One of my best friends is called Rory. However, every time I mention him my Dad, who is in his 60's shouts 'Roaaarrry Tiger' and then laughs to himself.
We generally ignore him now.

Sugarpiehoneyeye Tue 11-Oct-16 20:34:57

Gorgeous name.

Oysterbabe Tue 11-Oct-16 20:46:26

I find it a bit of a mouthful to say. Probably just me.

Batteriesallgone Tue 11-Oct-16 21:04:44

I always struggle to pronounce it. Anyone with a bit of an issue with their 'R's finds it quite hard to say (obviously). One of those ones where I have to pause what I'm saying to say it.

DramaAlpaca Tue 11-Oct-16 21:06:48

I absolutely love it, but only for a boy.

GruochMacAlpin Tue 11-Oct-16 21:43:46

How is a two syllable name a mouthful? grin

cheekyfunkymonkey Tue 11-Oct-16 21:45:31

Love it, would have used it if friends of ours hadn't beat us to it!!

Queenhoneybee Tue 11-Oct-16 21:47:58

I know a soon to be 2 year old Rory. He suits it perfectly. Fab name!

Pigeonpost Tue 11-Oct-16 21:48:40

I have a 5 year old Rory too. It's a lovely name.

Batteriesallgone Tue 11-Oct-16 21:48:50

Because both syllables start with an R! It's a killer! (In a way that, say, Robert isnt).

Oysterbabe Tue 11-Oct-16 21:49:03

It's hard to explain I just struggle to say it! I don't struggle with Rs usually but something about that name, it comes out sounding like Rowry.

Oly5 Tue 11-Oct-16 21:49:06

I know a Rory and he's lovely

Oysterbabe Tue 11-Oct-16 21:49:57

Glad it's not just me grin

Muddlingalongalone Tue 11-Oct-16 21:50:13

I love it. Only know one, who's 4 so not overused.
I do sing roary the racing car everything someone says his name though

Cahu58 Tue 11-Oct-16 21:54:31

If DD2 had been a boy she be Rory now, please use it ... It's a fab name
