So baby no.3. Just confirmed as a girl, and we like Ripley- anyone got any thoughts, positive or negative?!

i like it, but i wdnt use it. I think we never know what sort of children we will have, just because we, as adults quite fancy a 'different' name, dsnt necessarily mean our offspring would enjoy it. Sometimes kiddies would just prefer to be like their pals :)

Ripley's Believe It or Not.

Sorry. No.

Not really my cup of tea, but I've definitely heard worse Smile.

Love it. I'd be reminded of the film aliens every day.

I'm not hugely fond of surnamey first names. First thoughts - aliens, then bodybuilders (because they look all ripply)

Raspberry Ripple ice cream.

I'm not keen on surnames as first names, especially not for girls

It's not terrible though and no worse than Taylor, Kendal, Riley etc

Alien.

Quite like it, but it is a very tough name to pull off. It's potentially a bit of a burden to be putting on your DD.

Aliens. No.

Alien.

That said, I quite like it.

mishaps, hmmmm tricky to quantify but I've definitely heard worse. I didn't recoil when I read it basically. Would probably think "oh that's different" but not "oh that's terrible" IRL.

Thandie Newton's daughter is called Ripley. I quite like it.

Ripley? Is this a joke?
Why would you call a human Ripley?

Report
Madbengalmum · 09/10/2016 20:25

I know a Ripley, i quite like it.

CaoNiMa · 09/10/2016 21:07

It's a bit... nipply. And "Rip" isn't a pleasant word. It's a no from me.

Report
Raines100 · 09/10/2016 21:13

Believe it or not for me, too.

strawberrypenguin · 09/10/2016 21:15

Makes me think of Alien but I'm sure people would get past that pretty fast. I kind of like it.

Report
Oysterbabe · 09/10/2016 21:17

I think of it as a boys name just because of the talented Mr Ripley.

Report
Chinlo · 09/10/2016 21:36

It's a surname and I have a real thing against surnames as first names.

It makes me think of Alien but even her name is Ellen Ripley

I personally don't like it. It sounds like little rib/spare rib in my first language Blush
