I love the spelling Nikolas, like Nicholas and dislike Nicolas.

Any thoughts? Possible nicknames?

Which other names may I like?

ErrolTheDragon Sun 25-Sep-16 23:48:07

The first two are fine, agree Nicolas lacks something. Nik, Nick or Niko.

I think you can only use Nickolas if you are from a country that uses that spelling... otherwise go with Nicholas.

If you're not from somewhere where the typical spelling is Nikolas, he's going to have it misspelt forever. Go with Nicholas.

My husband is Niclas and he's Norwegian. Everyone assumes it's Nicholas.

agree, if you are polish, for example, nikolas, but otherwise Nicolas, or Nicholas

NoahVale Mon 26-Sep-16 09:48:12

so go with Nicholas, and nickname is Nick or Nicky

Yeah I thought as much re Nikolas! I hadn't thought of Nicky as a nn hmm I don't like it but I know we don't get to choose the nn...

Love Thomas, Alexander and Elliott!

Great name. I like it spelt with the K.

ScarletSahara Mon 26-Sep-16 22:52:38

I also like Jonathan.

Nikolas looks nicer to me still but warming to Nicholas more and more.

Any middle name ideas?

Afraid all are too much like 'knicker less' to me!

I would use Alexander menationed

ScarletSahara Tue 27-Sep-16 12:19:17

Ah darn! I have never thought or heard anyone say that before. Hmm.

Sugar-they're all lovely and you've used family names as the middle names too!

ScarletSahara Tue 27-Sep-16 12:20:01

We can't use Alexander as a first name but as a middle name is fine.

Nikolai, NN Kolya?

I am desperate to use this name but (Russian) DP has decreed that it is a "peasant" name hmm

Sugarpiehoneyeye Tue 27-Sep-16 13:15:32

That's so funny Essential 😂

squoosh Tue 27-Sep-16 13:19:06

What about Tsar Nicholas though? Does he not elevate it above peasant status. Or is it because he was a royal dud that the name is frowned upon?

EssentialHummus Tue 27-Sep-16 13:25:15

I've tried that line squoosh. None of our Russian friends have this association, so no idea why he's stuck on it. Anyway OP, I'm doomed to have a son called Boris or Igor or something equally non-peasant, so use Nikolai if you can. <Grumbles>

Pipilangstrumpf Tue 27-Sep-16 14:30:37

I prefer Nikolas, nickname Niko.

Pipilangstrumpf Tue 27-Sep-16 14:31:01

I'm not so keen on Nick or Nicky.

ScarletSahara Tue 27-Sep-16 15:05:47

I love Nikolai! There's a great children's book called Nikolai of the North that made me love it years ago. Could I?
