Would really like to know your thoughts on these names!

TaliDiNozzo Sat 17-Sep-16 18:51:48

As twins? No.

As individual names they're fine.

I like Stephen but , irrationally, not Stephanie, and particularly not Steph.

Giratina Sat 17-Sep-16 19:13:33

I used to know siblings called that. I thought their parents lacked imagination.

ElmerTheElephant Sat 17-Sep-16 19:55:42

I'm a bit like midsomer. I quite like Stephen but not Stephanie for some reason.

If you're talking about naming a brother and sisters Stephen and Stephanie then I would say no.

Sugarpiehoneyeye Sat 17-Sep-16 20:22:17

Like Stephanie, not Stephen

user1474133568 Sat 17-Sep-16 20:45:24

No way for twins/siblings grin

My maiden name was Stephens, so looking at middle name options.

ElmerTheElephant Sat 17-Sep-16 21:05:26

Ah I did wonder! grin

How about Stephania? I do like Stephen and tbh, if it's for a middle name and for the reason you've mentioned, I think Stephanie is fine too. I just don't particularly love it as a first name,

tapismagique Sat 17-Sep-16 21:47:23

I was amazed by how few Stephens there are in the 2015 ONS baby names data so it would be an unusual choice, even though it doesn't seem like a rare name. You have to be okay with Steve, though. And Steph for Stephanie because they will 100% definitely be abbreviated

Caldini22 Sat 17-Sep-16 23:08:19

I like Stephanie I think it's pretty. Not so keen on Stephen as a first name but ok as middle name.

Sugarpiehoneyeye Sun 18-Sep-16 00:46:54

Yes, Stephen is fine for a middle name 😀

gemmawinegum Sun 18-Sep-16 00:48:58

Stephen seems to be one of those traditional but yet good names that seems to be on its way to extinction. I can't remember the last time iheard a child called Stephen.

DramaAlpaca Sun 18-Sep-16 00:51:39

I like Stephen, it's a classic that's fallen out of favour.

Stephanie I don't like so much, but it would be fine as a middle name.

katemess12 Sun 18-Sep-16 00:53:40

I like Stephen, but hate Stephanie.

Also, agree that Stephanie will inevitably be shortened to Steph.

QuimReaper Sun 18-Sep-16 01:00:01

I hate Stephanie too! I think because it only shortens to Steph, and it always shortens to Steph, and Steph is horrid.

Yika Sun 18-Sep-16 09:31:57

I like Stephen very much, a great classic.

Stephanie sounds a bit harsh to me.

Lucked Sun 18-Sep-16 09:34:20

I like them although I have a slight preference for Stephan having had a massive crush on one in the 90s

Marcipex Sun 18-Sep-16 10:15:45

I know a Stephanie shortened to Fanny by teasing girls. Alright as a middle name tho.

Loafingaround Sun 18-Sep-16 11:44:15

I love Stephanie! Think its feminine, individual, graceful and light, have no idea how anyone could think it sounds harsh??! Steph/ Steffi are really nice nns too IMO.

Chip86 Sun 18-Sep-16 20:21:40

My Stephanie is 8 months and always gets comments on her name. She is known as Sessie as that is how her big sis says stephie but there are loads of nn

GottaGetThisDone Sun 18-Sep-16 20:27:21

I like Stephanie no Stevie
As middle names they are fine - my DS1 middle name is Stephen and had he been a girl it would have been Stephanie smile

crje Sun 18-Sep-16 20:27:40

They were my twin dolls names when I was eight.

They are a bit dated, not classic names.

RiaOverTheRainbow Sun 18-Sep-16 20:35:32

Stephanie is great and I quite like Stephen. Both perfectly fine for middle names.

minatiae Sun 18-Sep-16 20:39:28

I like Stephen but not Stephanie

SarcasmMode Sun 18-Sep-16 22:09:42

I'm Stefanie [with an F] I quite like it.
