Pronounced Ell-E-Yus...

I like it and I've never heard it used for a girl.

It's Walt Disney's middle name, but there I'm pretty sure it's pronounced E-lie-us.

It's different I like it, but I prefer it pronounced how pp suggested.

MrsJoeyMaynard Fri 16-Sep-16 11:56:23

I've only come across the e-lie-us pronunciation too, and I've only ever seen it used for boys.

Agree with pp, love the name but only heard the ee lie uss pronunciation.

everdene Fri 16-Sep-16 12:02:35

Yes, I like it but have also only heard of it pronounced El-eye-as.

Sounds too much like
alias i prefer Elliott

timeforsomethingnewithink Fri 16-Sep-16 12:13:12

Love it! But needs to be pronounced E lie us. Otherwise use Elliott, which is also great.

well it IS a boy's name, so yes.
E lie us is how it is pronounced.

Elias - can be pronounced either way - but in England it is E-Lie-Us and in the meditteranean/middle east it is pronounced El-i-yus.

It is a beautiful name with a beautiful meaning (the Lord is my God). It is the Greek for Elijah.

Love it. But not as op pronounced it

Pipilangstrumpf Fri 16-Sep-16 14:06:09

I like it. It can be pronounced phonetically as El-i-as (as in German speaking and other countries) or the as El-ie-as. I actually prefer the first version (think that's what the op means).

helenatroy Fri 16-Sep-16 14:19:15

It's lovely and you love it. Go for it.

I like it but I struggle to know which way to pronounce it properly if I just see it written down.

I know one who is a baby. His parents pronounce it El-eye-us.
