Sister for Catherine

So, we've just found out we're having another girl.

DD is Catherine Mary Eva (all family names). Surname is a lot like McDarmie. I want to avoid repeating an initial from our immediate family, so no names beginning with C, S (DH) or L (me).

I guess we like more traditional names. We don't want anything in the top100 names (Catherine is 260ish!) Something longish that has a number of different nicknames would be nice! DH is Scottish.

Middle names will be family names - most likely Margaret and/or Linda.

Current ideas are:
Alexandra
Bryony
Eilidh
Esther
Frances
Georgina
Juliet
Rebecca

Any opinions or other ideas? :)

Elizabeth
Lydia
Jane
Mary
Kitty (Catherine)
...were the Bennett sisters in P+P, and it seems you and Jane Austen have similar taste, so I give you the ones above you don't have and:
Elinor
Marianne
Emma
Maria
Harriet
Charlotte
Caroline
Georgiana

Frances Margaret
Juliet Margaret

Harriet Linda

Susannah
Elizabeth
Helena

I love Frances from your list. Strong, feminine but not 'frilly' which is how I view Catherine as a name.

I have a sister called Catherine, you can probably work out my real name... Elizabeth strikes me as the obvious choice...

My first though was Jemima.

But I also like Juliet from your list.

Another vote for Elizabeth.

Sits together well with Catherine (but not too similar) and endless abbreviative potential

Just thought of Rosamund or (or poss Rosalind, if not using Linda as a middle name)

Before I read your choices I immediately thought the feminine George names would work well Georgia/Georgina (might be too popular) so georgiana might be better also Harriet and Elinor are beautiful again maybe too popular?
Frances from your list is also lovely :)

I immediately thought a B- name would suit, and think Beatrice would be lovely

We had a very similar list to you and our little girl is called Helena (nn Nell). We loved all the nickname potentials (Hela, Lena etc) and the fact that it was a proper name but not common.

Thanks all, some good ideas here. I love Elizabeth but might be a bit popular for us (39th).

Lots of love for Frances, which has a family connection (my grandad was Frank).

I like Rosamund/Rosalind, also Rosalie....?

I like, Helena, Frances and Alexandra.

All 3 also give you/her a good range of NNs to chose from if you wish. All 3 go really well with Catherine. Smile

I'm not so keen on Rosalie but Rosalind with nn Ros is lovely.
You have lovely taste in names.

Eleanor
Henrietta
Felicity
Rebecca

I think that you need something quite strong and traditional. Henrietta Frances would be lovely.

Elf I'm not sure Catherine would be s good name for a sister for an existing Catherine, even if you do nn her Kitty. Grin

My suggestion is Josephine/Josie/Jo/Posy

Before I even read your op, Georgina came to my mind! I think Catherine is a versatile name that flows with lots of other names. It goes with all of the names on your list.Smile

My immediate thought was Susannah, but I see you want to avoid 'S' as an initial. Maybe Audrey, Ingrid, Hannah, Judith, Rachel or Victoria?

My favourite names from your list are Bryony, Juliet (I like Julia too) and Rebecca.

I'm surprised to see Georgina on your list - it is a very popular name round here at the moment.
