Douglas or Gregory

I've posted before about Douglas (to be shortened to Dougie) which I'm pretty keen on for our DC3 due in a few months but DH is less keen and is now trying to push Gregory/Greg instead. I'm struggling to imagine calling a tiny baby 'Greg' although I do like the idea of it on an older boy and man.

Any strong views on either of these names?

Definitely prefer Gregory. Dougie in a broad Scottish accent up here sounds harsh, a bit like 'Duggeh' - but it might sound nicer in your accent

Douglas is fabulous. Don't give up on Dougie (I don't hate Greg but Dougie is far superior!)

I like both - they are both strong names and not hugely common. Gregory would win it for me if I had to chose between the two, only because I would struggle to think of a small baby as Douglas, Gregory seems to work at all ages.

Seems as the two names have different opinions regarding if they do/ don't suit a baby. I much prefer Douglas than Gregory. To me Douglas is a lovely name and there are a few nicknames that could be used throughout life.

Interesting - seems to be an opinion divider. Gregory narrowly in the lead from the posters so far. I'm surprised that both names are miles out of the top 200 boys names, makes me feel a bit nervous to use them but also love the idea of something a bit unusual (but not weird)!

I prefer that to Gregory, but Gregory's a perfectly nice, normal name.

I prefer Gregor to Gregory. Tbh I think Gregor is less likely to be shortened.

I like Douglas but can't think of anyone who actually gets Douglas, rather than Duggie which I'm not so keen on.

I like Gregory better, although sometimes Greg can be misheard as Craig. Depends on where you live.

Thanks all - great to know we're not going mad considering these names on the whole. Gregory is growing on me, I think it's sneaking into the lead for us right now.

I love both of these names so much! Timeless and cool for little people and big. Not sure which I prefer though - possibly Gregory as it seems a little more unusual, but it's a close call.
