Cooper or Sullivan?

Surname is in my username - I prefer Cooper but DH is leaning toward Sullivan. I'm wondering whether he'll get called Sully for short...

Thoughts??

Idliketobeabutterfly Thu 01-Sep-16 12:39:30

Cooper, yes probably end up as Sully.

Haworthiia Thu 01-Sep-16 12:42:08

Honestly? Not keen on either. Both are surnames as names which I'm not keen on.,

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost Thu 01-Sep-16 12:58:00

Cooper. Sullivan is horrible.

BoboBunnyH0p Thu 01-Sep-16 13:00:51

I like both, sorry no help. I like surnames as names, my DS has one.
Yes as he gets older his nn is likely to be Sully.

Tiggeryoubastard Thu 01-Sep-16 13:04:13

Both fucking awful. Give the poor kid name, not another surname.

VioletBam Thu 01-Sep-16 13:05:26

Tigger that's just rude. Obviously OP likes the names.

OP I also think Cooper is better than Sullivan. Also...is your surname Geebee?

PartiallyStars Thu 01-Sep-16 13:08:13

Sullivan will definitely become Sully.
I am afraid the first thing I thought of with Cooper was that it rhymes with Pooper, but I do have two young sons who can make anything toilet related.

Don't like either but Cooper is marginally less terrible.

TheCraicDealer Thu 01-Sep-16 13:09:58

I normally dislike surnames as first names but have to admit, Sully is a cool nm. I know a dog called Cooper and that's really putting me off that one.

DramaAlpaca Thu 01-Sep-16 13:23:29

I think Sullivan is much better than Cooper, and Sully is a nicer nickname than Coop.

MrsHughesCarson Thu 01-Sep-16 13:32:57

Sorry, I don't like either.

CakeRattleandRoll Thu 01-Sep-16 14:42:02

Sullivan, with nn Van (as in Morrison).

sonlypuppyfat Thu 01-Sep-16 15:06:38

Are you naming a puppy?

LemonBreeland Thu 01-Sep-16 15:09:35

I have a Cooper who is 9. He loves it and so do lots of people he meets. I do like Sullivan too.

Tiffany101 Thu 01-Sep-16 15:44:52

Between these two names my vote goes to Cooper.

PhoebeGeebee Thu 01-Sep-16 15:46:48

lemonbreeland - thanks for that, great to hear someone else who has used this name and likes it.

puppyfat and tigger - thanks for your well meaning responses. There are plenty of names that I think are fucking hideous but would never tell someone that. Naming your child is so subjective you're never going to please everyone, but glad you took the time to give me such constructive feedback grin

fluentinsarcasm Thu 01-Sep-16 15:58:19

I like both OP, Sullivan slightly more. Like pp suggestion of Van as a nn too.

I also like Sawyer too. I wouldn't take too much notice to some of the comments, on here Herbert, Hector and Wilbur rule.

sonlypuppyfat Thu 01-Sep-16 17:59:41

You are welcome anytime I can help

inaclearingstandsaboxer Thu 01-Sep-16 18:02:28

I have a nephew who is called Cooper. It is a family name.

I love it I think I am lemons sisterinlaw

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen Thu 01-Sep-16 18:05:12

I really like Coopersmile

Pinklily1 Thu 01-Sep-16 18:06:31

I prefer Sullivan. Someone suggested Sawyer too - that's nice as an alternative (if you are open to them of course!).

Strokethefurrywall Thu 01-Sep-16 18:12:30

I'm biased as I have a Sullivan! He's 2 1/2, gets nicknamed Sully or Van.
I love it, he's got an Irish first name by virtue of being a Paddy's day baby and our Scottish surname.

The only comments we've had have been "wow that's a very cool name".

But you either like surnames for first names or you hate them.

Obviously I prefer Sullivan over Cooper but I like Cooper too.

LoraLoves Thu 01-Sep-16 19:57:28

Love Sullivan. Absolutely stunning.

Jeannekepis Thu 01-Sep-16 19:59:26

Neither is to my taste, but Cooper is the better of the two.
